Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I know it's wrong, but I had to laugh at the "amped-up hillbilly" part. It's better to compromise. Take a little bit road left of the line, and don't ride the line, but still leave enough room for them to pass when needed. Trucks need time to slow down in a controlled way to 20 mph for a bike on a 55 mph rural roadway, where they're probably driving 60 mph. Not all truck drivers are the best drivers, though some are. Wearing highly visible shirts or vests helps motorists see us sooner. They should slow down and only pass with a safe distance, but we don't want them to think we block their path and force the issue. Safety is far more compromised when and if they lose control of their vehicle, and secondly lose control of their amped up hillbilly temper.
