I have only been cycling a year and 1/2. I have a nice Scott CR1 with 105 components which is more than enough.....BUT - I keep looking at SRAM stuff. Have heard a few friends talk about how much they like it and that was all it took, them talking and something I could think about.
1- It would save me weight - 1.7 lbs if I got red - I have another 8-10# to loose if I hit my goal, not having a light bike will help me reach my goal 2- "It shifts more briskly" - never had a problem with my 105. I have never ever ridden a SRAM bike so I really don't even know for sure if I would like it. But - I feel compelled to check it out - Weird |

I put $10 ebay/Chinese carbon bottle cages on my $4000 Italian bike. I am more weight weenie-ish than someone my size (6'04" 210lbs) has any right being. I justified buying a $4000 bike for charity rides. "It's for a good cause". |
I haven't bought anything bike related in over a year.
My helmet is a Target special. The all protect the same, and I do not sweat that much. I live 4 miles from work (for now) but I haven't cycled to work in 4 years. I have signed up for a Team In Training ride to motivate me to get off my lazy ass. Also, a family member is a 15 year survivor of blood cancer. |
I think plastic is fantastic!

I just googled Kelly Monaco
|
I currently have 4 bikes, none of which are for loaning to the untrained.
-caad10, with look Keos. Road race bike. -felt tk2, with Keos. Track race bike. Obviously brakeless. -an also brakeless fixed gear, with Time ATACs. (right, right, brakeless. dont judge. this is not the place for such discussion) My townie/beater/winter trainer/everything else bike. -a crappy cruiser I won, but I'm trying to sell the damn thing. One of my roommates (the not so bright one, who doesnt bike, and I dont like all that much anyway, because he's kind of a tool) only sees this as "I have 4 bikes," and keeps insisting that I let him ride one of mine so we can "go for a serious ride together" to like salem, MA or something. (~40 mi round trip from my house). He also insists that he's "pretty fit, he should totally be able to keep up!" (honestly, he is pretty ripped, but as far as i know, its all lifting so he can look good, with minimal cardio). I'm out of ways to explain to him that he could not keep up, and even if I matched pace with him, there are practical reasons why he can't/shouldn't ride any of my bikes as an inexperienced cyclist. Sure, he could always ride the cruiser, but I wouldn't let anyone ride that for 40 miles straight, because, well, its a cruiser. He doesn't understand this concept either... Most of all, I just don't want to hang out with him. |

I talk about being too fat to be a factor at races and how I need to do something about it, but I really don't do anything significant. (I did stay away from the snack vending machine at work today.)

yes. And it annoys me when my overweight/sedentary roomates and co-workers say 'so you're go for a bike ride?' when I'm going to some abandoned industrial park to V02 max intervals and WRIs until puke so I don't get dropped in my crit.
On the otherhand, I no longer judge anyone who rides a bike. I used be all about posers and Freds and whatever, but after getting humbled over and over in races...i think its just cool that people ride bikes at all.... |

Mmm...Kelly Monaco (season 1)
I don't, and never plan to, shave my legs. I built a bike over the winter just for crits, but now I use it for everything. |
I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever claim to be, a U.S. Navy Seal.

Here's another confession: Starting to regret putting the standard double on my bike last summer and then getting so incredibly f***in out of shape over the winter that I had to stop and walk up two hills today, as well as stop just about every mile to get my heart rate down from 180+. I wasn't even trying to push myself, had I gone any slower I would have never made it home from my 13 mile ride :-( It's amazing how just a few months can destroy your fitness level.

I always wait for an oncoming car to approach before blowing a snot rocket. Gross-I know.
|
I wanted to be a Navy Seal, was going to apply until I realized my 20/300 eyesight disqualified me. Bummer.

Just ate a 2000 calorie dinner

Exactly-we are all in the process of being passed or passing. Seems pretty silly to gloat over whether or not you can pass someone on a more expensive bike.
I use cycling as an excuse for carbo loading. |
I think road cycling helmets look like headless ducks.

I dont like Lance. But I do like El Pistolero.

I keep buying blue bikes because my family can't tell the difference between them.
People keep giving me their phone numbers/cards so we can ride together, i never call them back. 30 rides this year, 29 of them i have hit 30mph or better on the flats and have not told anyone. The one i did not was 29.5 mph. 65 years old, 194 pounds, bike 23 pounds, other stuff 7 pounds, 5 foot 8 inches tall. Don't have to shave my legs as my hair on them fell out long ago, don't know why. I think i fractured my left arm 6 or 8 months ago, never went to the Docs, pain is almost gone. Fell hard into cemented in rocks. Hip is much better also. If i could i would spend the rest of my life in spandex. |
1) I dream of crushing the souls of skinny little pompous biker maggots, but I wake realizing that I am way to big and fat for that.
2) I am convinced that my Orca makes me a better/faster rider. 3) I still obsess over why I didn't either get the license plate number of his truck or call out the guy who stopped and threatened to kick our asses a few weeks ago. Stupid south central rednecks! 2) I can't even count the number of reasons I wouldn't be qualified to become a U.S. Navy Seal. |
I have never watched Dancing with the Stars. Probably never will. I watched Survivor the first season it was on about 12 years ago or so. Never since.
|
i will be buying Never Say Never (Blu Ray, DVD, Digital Movie Combo Pack) this Firday over my lunch break.....
....and im pretty excited about that. later. |
