Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanksgiving ride 2010 ....

I went with my buddy for an annual Thanksgiving ride at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area in Michigan. It's a pretty fast, but also hilly and muddy terrain. It was cold, and trail pretty muddy. Since I used to have a lot of problems with chain suck with my stock crank, every time I went through mud, I got chain suck and I was stopping every few minutes.
Couple guys stopped to see if I need help, and talked for a while... The only solution was to clean my crank with my drinking water...After I used all my water I was stuck... I got to the paved road which goes through the park ( not even half way on the trail ) and I came back to the parking lot using main , paved roads.
I was mad at myself and my bike that I couldn't make it to the end of the trial... I'm an honest guy, and I was ready to tell my buddy what happened and that I didn't finish it...
The moment I rolled on to the parking lot, two guys who tried to help me on the trail shouted "You made it!", than my buddy said "Good job!" .... well.... I didn't say anything

My favorite cycling book is so old that most people don't even know who the author is anymore.

Dood.

This is the Road forum.

You want the Mountain bike or 'Cross forum.

Speaking strictly for me I can't see why you would have left the main ,paved roads in the first place.

When it was current or when it was new?

A lot of the people on bf weren't even a twinkle in the eye when this book was written btw.

I sold my MTB at a $200 loss so I could buy fancy carbon cages.

I take the Velominati rules seriously for the most part. Still haven't bought a saddle bag.. but oh so tempting.

I'm sure it's been done, but if not, someone should start a thread on how many of the Velominati rules we all break.

I see why people like you here. Regardless of what people may say about their CS, I shop there at least once a week. Mostly because I'm a member and get 20% off, and the Asian lady at Cycle World doesn't like me very much.

Bought my bike at Bike Tech. Considering buying their club kit.

Nice. Way to sell it on me. It seems I'm destined for black/red/white kits. I was planning on buying the Hammer Nutrition kit next, but maybe I'll get this one first.
