Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I built a fixed gear a while back on a whim, as you have, and wasn't impressed. I would much rather have singlespeed with brakes. If you're riding a fixed gear with no brakes, drunk, at any speeds faster than a walking pace I'd say you're taking too much of a risk.

no brakes + no pedal retention? you might call us hipsters but you might benefit from some time in the 178.

Very nice build otherwise. Spend some more time riding fixed and you'll get used to it.. Just wait til you get on your roadie or MTB. It will be weird to coast. Ha ha.

Actually, I take that question back. It was different at first but you settle into it after a couple or rides

The first time out was super sketch, like I didn't know what to do. I kept want to coast over bumps or down driveways.....it doesn't help that I always ride the thing after coming back from doing morning rides on my roadbike....anyway though, after a couple times it does become second nature and it is a blast to ride. I love just cruising around downtown on it just for kicks....matter of fact that's just what I'm about to do.

here's a couple of pics. the second one has some proper pedals.

Don't ride drunk, fixed or not.

And please find someone to give it a tape job it deserves, if you can't do it properly yourself. Everything else fits just right.

Lol, right. They must be confused!

Also, friends don't let friends ride brakeless. Doesn't matter how good you think you are - you can't stop anywhere near as quickly as with a front brake. It's a physics thang.

Chain is too tight. Keep it like that and you'll munch your rear hub bearings. From personal experience.
