Hot & Sticky
No, I'm not talking about your bedroom romp last night. It's the weather! And it's kind of driving me nuts.
Rode this weekend in exceptionally muggy weather and couldn't for the life of me stop sweating bullets. Other than wearing light clothes and maybe bulking up on salt intake, any recommendations on how to continue to feel fresh on those hot & sticky days?

Take from someone riding in Louisiana - you are asking the impossible. Drink a lot of water and realize that you are going to be a sweaty mess. Just accept it and think how nice that shower will feel after your ride.
I do have one of these and it does keep the sweat out of the eyes!

Today it's 92 and humid here and there is 10-15mph wind that will be against us on the outbound leg. -- same as yesterday.
My solution: Ditch and lycra for something looser and cooler, wear a terry cloth headband, drink a lot, and shorten the ride a bit.

I had by far my most miserable ride of the year this past friday, the first really hot and humid ride of the year.
I felt like giving up after 30 minutes, but suffered through 1:40.
Same conditions on saturday, however I had one of those rides where I felt like I could've gone 5 hours, and would've if not for other obligations.
I think the body adapts to the environment you're riding in and after a few rides in the hot and sticky you'll be okay.
BTW - this thread might help.

Freeze one bottle. It should defrost an hour or so into your ride.
Douse yourself with water.
Drink more than water - add electrolytes.
No base layer.
Remember it could be snowing.

As another Louisiana rider, I've found the best way to keep cool in this type of weather is to simply keep pedaling. It's the only way to keep the AC blowing.

R U Serious Rush?
Especially in NYC!
After the winter we just had, I'll take all the sweat and grime and heat Mother Nature can dish out thank you very much!
I use a Halo sweat cap and this year, I'm going to carry a bottle of MiO
in my saddle bag so that I won't have to pay for drinks along the route
and can just stop wherever there is a refrigerated fountain and stock up.
I can't drink too much plain water. It turns my stomach.
Other than that, just remember Winter 2011 the next time the heat gets to you.
Hello? It's barely Spring man! Conserve your [female dogging] and save it for July & August!

A couple of drops of this and I have a sports drink taste for a few pennies
(they are about $3. and last for about 2 dozen bottles of water as I use it).

Ride just after sunrise to take advantage of the cooler temps of the day. Some don't mind riding in the dark, but I'd only do that on trails with good lights. I'm amazed to see cyclists going out in the early afternoon during the heat of the day in Florida.

I was just complaining this morning about how cold it is here. Low of 41 degrees last night and a high of 54 today. Just move here and you can still get in some skiing at Snowbird in the morning and some chilly riding in the afternoon.

I love the heat and humidity!!!!!!
After today's ride I'm convinced the body just works a whole lot better when it's hot out than when it's when it's cool.
This is the time of the year when going hard almost seems fun.
When average ride times and average speed starts going way up and being on the bike is pure bliss.
Except on the tuesday night group ride and the Wednesday night training race of course.

As for winter...well, I ski. So this was pretty much the best winter I can remember.

.....glad I didn't google that at work... Learn something new everyday.
As to the OP. Here is South Carolina we know all about hot and sticky temps. I like the heat, but I will carry LOTS of water and know where I can get more. I hate those behind the seat bottle racks, but they are the only way I can carry enough for a 45-65 mile ride...

I wish. Both my frozen bottles were thawed within about 45 min. How do I know? That's when I got my flat today.
Wouldn't make a bit of difference - I'm already soaked through with sweat. After long rides in the heat I've had to pour it out of my shoes....
Done, done, and done.
And surprise, surprise, surprise, it will do just that next winter.
There must be something wonderful about the inability some people apparently have to remember such things as "seasons". Every spring it's really a new thing that way.
