Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Drat wheel tape.

Well the new wheels came DHL this afternoon. I was pretty excited. Put a tube in, Stuck a tire on and Hissssssssssssssssss....

No rim tape. It's my first set of high end and carbon fiber wheels. I just assumed they were good to go. We all know what assume means. LOL Any way, ordered some tape and a new tube. Maybe in a day or so I can try them out.

Wheels do not always come ready to install a tire. You always need to install a cassette and double check that the spoke holes are covered. Many people have preferences to what spoke hole covering they use (Velox cloth, VeloPlugs, rim strips, lightweight tape such as Rox), and it is a personal preference almost like choosing a tire.

They look like nice wheels.

Enjoy them.

And forgive yourself for the "oops."

I did the exact same thing a while ago. One of those mistakes you only make once. I like Velox tape.

I dunno how fancy those wheels are (never seen the specs on those), but if you are going for lightweight it's hard to beat veloplugs.

I wanna say the rimtape I had was 35g heavier than veloplugs (total for 2 wheels). Not that it really matters.

But just knowing how elegant those plugs are--hidden though they are--can be worth it. :-)

^ LOL, they are $600 fancy but that's not saying much. They both have a total weigh 3.2 pounds bare.

And PGjackson, Yep. I bet it's the last time I make it also.

EDIT, I guess I should have said they are made my MATRIX.
