Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does ice count? I took this photo in 1980 on Lake Superior in Copper Harbor, MI. The bike is my custom-built Assenmacher (Columbus KL tubing and full Super Record gruppo).

Bikes: yes please

Ugly water - ugly situation

15 miles into a 35 mile destination ride for ice cream with Lynn & Lou and my rear hub cracks and the wheel is locked up tight. Placed the call of shame to my wife who's teaching at a school not too far away. Of course her getting ice cream was part of the toll . Luckily she could get away just long enough to get me back to the start.

Time to kill, and thought of this thread and found some water. Not much to look at but it was a beautiful cool fall day.

Ouch! Deal4Fuji

Does this bike count? It's hanging on our porch and the porch is on a house on a lake.

My bike on the bridge at Lock #12 on the Farmington Canal rail trail in Cheshire, CT. The canal, which ran south to north through Connecticut to Massachusetts, opened for horse pulled barges in 1828. In 1848 a rail line alongside the canal replaced barge traffic, operating until the 1980s.

Lock #12 on the canal (photo) has been restored as well as the gatekeepers house. A museum about the canal on site is currently closed. The Farmington Canal Trail is part of the East Coast Greenway and is approximately 50 miles long starting in New Haven, CT and continuing into Massachusetts to the Southwick rail trail.

Bikes: 74 Raleigh Super Course Mk II, 77 Nishiki International, 77 Motobecane Super Mirage, 84 Team Fuji, 85 Schwinn Traveler, 86 Schwinn Prelude, 86 Raleigh Technium 460, 87 Raleigh Technium Tri Lite, 88 Cannondale "Crest", 96 Giant ATX 830, 05 Trek 1000

Took a trip up the Eastern Shore

I made stops in Ocean City, MD, Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Cape May, NJ, with my recent acquisition; a 1987 Raleigh Technium Tri Lite. Swapped out the Santé brakes and downtube shifters, mismatched derailleurs, too narrow handlebars and too short stem, for Ultegra F&R derailleurs, Nitto Olympiade handlebars, 130mm Ritchey stem, and Microshift 2x8 brifters. B-17 saddle. I didn't have complimentary handlebar tape, so I went without pending its arrival. Ultegra crankset arrived today. I rode the length of the boardwalks in Rehoboth Beach and Cape May.

Thanks Ken. Have you ridden north from Cheshire? I'm curious as to when this was built:

That picture from TrailLink shows that it is just north of Cornwall Ave., but I headed South from there in 2017.
Is the scenery nice when heading North from there?

My son did a Duathlon yesterday at the Olympic rowing lake at Dorney near Windsor. You can just about make out his bike if you look really closely.

I have a buddy training for a marathon so I got out on the C&O trail the other day. The 20ish miles I rode the trail make me want to ride it from beginning to end
