Most Homeowners (Including renters/condo) policies will cover the cost of your bike being stolen from your premesis the same as any other items being stolen from your premisis. Where policies differ is in the way they treat a claim off premisis. Most will only cover a limited amount (like $500) of the cost if you do not get a specific endorsement to cover the bike. If you get the endorsement, it is most likely going to be a scheduled property rider, and you will have to pay for it as though it were jewelry etc. If you have an expensive bike, my suggestion to you is to read your policy carefully, and if you have any questions or doubts about your coverage, call your agent or the company to make sure that you are covered. If they tell you that you are covered, record the conversation. If they say you aren't, ask what you need to do to get coverage. Policies vary from company to company, so read carefully.

I own a Kryptonite U-lock. Anyone got a bic pen? you can have my bike. I'm sure you've all heard about that one by now. They're replacing their U-locks because after all these years all it took was a bic pen. I've kissed at least 4500 bucks worth of bikes away because...well, I don't know why people steal bikes. I guess they're just @holes.
