Question on etiquette in the 41

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question on etiquette in the 41

So, having used my time on BF wisely and spent most of my early months simply reading and not bothering everyone with useless questions and comments (I swear if I could have come up with a RyanF guads type thread I would have) that have been made countless times, I have a question on etiquette here in the 41. Every now and then a search will yield a good number of threads that began well, but full reviews or opinions were never expressed. It normally ends with a mash of "oooh, tell me how they/it are" and the person promises to give a complete evaluation, but it never arrives. Instead you're simply left wondering what happened, as well as a laundry list of everything else the person should have bought or installed.

So my question is, which is more unforgivable: Necromancing a dead/bygone thread (at point is too long ago?) that was headed in the right direction but never quite got there, or creating a new thread that has many siblings in the hope that this particular one will make it to the promised land?

Bunch of wiseasses we got here.

OP, I would start a new thread. I think that's best.

There's never a thread that's too old to bump.

So negative.

Personally, I'd rather see the old thread bumped.

I'd go the new thread route.

People come and go on forums, so if you resurrect an old thread, the original poster likely isn't around to give you an update anyway. Plus, the zombie threads are annoying because you type out a nicely-thought-out response to the original question then discover it's 8 years old.

Slam it, flip it, carbon, handbuilt, gentile cycle, eBay, shave, bibs, Di2.

One of those is the correct answer you seek.

Good luck.

I expected this from everyone, and I appreciate those that have a real opinion. I could go the usual route and worship Pcad and hope his brilliance is passed down, or simply start aimless threads about why I shouldn't buy things that don't apply to my uses. I just know I've seen an equal share of people get flamed for necromancing, as well as the same users offering useless advice and endless bickering on repeat threads. Not trolling, just trying to avoid becoming that guy...well, I think I've already done that now, but I'd still like a shot at redemption then

There have been a bunch. I usually do a google search with "bike forums" included, and get at least 4-5 archived threads. Most solve my issue or question, or at the least provide a good laugh. Its only every once in a while I wish I could chime in or ask for further guidance, but that's usually the thread from 2005 that had already been bumped in 2008. I find it easier most of the time to read all 5 choices and make an educated guess, which is what I'll probably do from now again.

I think the most recent thread I was looking at had to do with the headset that came stock on my bike (and for specs/reviews on the headset that is on there now that I bought with the frame), I went looking and the most recent I could find was '08.

Then start a new thread. Don't be shy. If it's dumb, it'll just blend in.

I think this works best.
And you can apply this thinking to so many areas in life.
