Quick tips for hydration, thx
I don't have any friends to ask they are all saying I should stay in. I just need a quick bit of advice then we can let the thread die, thanks!!!!!
I'm going to ride in an hour or so. It's 113 degrees right now.
I just had a 24oz bottle of water with Gu Brew. I plan to drink 3-4 more 24oz bottles before I go.
I carry two 24oz bottles on the bike.
Do you think this will be sufficient for a 1hr 20 mile ride? or should I stock up a little more?

great read (im not done yet.) That sounds scary though... I don't think I've ever drank enough water to do harm to myself.

You can sweat around 2l an hour. Thats 60oz.
For an hour:
20 before, 20 during, and a recovery drink.

When you pushing hard on a extremely hot, humid day you can sweat it out just about as fast as you can drink it.
I don't have any advice other than "choose a different color than black"

So your plan is to ride for an hour, and pee for an hour?

You should be fine with that much water over that short a period. I used to ride in 100+ temps in West Texas and generally, a bottle an hour is a good average.
The one thing to worry about out there is the dry heat - you are going to lose lots of water but not notice it. In the dry weather, sweat evaporates almost immediately, so it won't feel like you are sweating, even though you are.
In more humid climates, the sweat will stick to you longer.

Let your body be your guide. Go out and have some fun, take it a little easier, ride in the shade when you're able to, stop at every water fountain you pass, and maybe grab lunch midway through your ride in an air conditioned restaurant. Stop if you being to feel queasy. Sip constantly, drinking before you get thirsty.

your best way to be hydrated is plan ahead. drink plenty of water the night before, or at least a few hours before, to let your body absorb and store it properly. when you pee, if it's clear like water you're good. keep drinking water frequently, but not too much at a time. for work in hot conditions, about 16 ounces water every 1/2 hour and a Gatorade or Powerade every 2 hours works good for me.
