Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dang this weather

We have a tropical storm parked over us right now, raining just enough to keep me off the road, I don't ride in the rain due to complications that cause my leg to come off.
This is happening at the same time that I just brought home my brand new bike, and I have gotten to ride it the first afternoon for 14 miles before it got dark. Otherwise, all I have done is stared at it and wished...and the forecast is calling for heavy rain again tomorrow.

It hasn't rained here in WEEKS, and it has to happen NOW?!?!?%*&()$^&^$*%^#@

Yeah, what's left of that storm is just hitting us now and is going to keep us wet all week... I got up ready to bike in to work this morning and found it cold and wet out. I haven't picked up fenders for my backup bike yet, so no ride and it looks like it's going to be time on the trainer and elliptical for the next few days.

It hasn't been pretty for me either. 30 mph winds all day yesterday and expected today. Thunderstorms as well. I did manage to sneak in a 4 mile run yesterday but I've only logged 14 miles on the bike all weekend when I expected to get at least 150 over the three days.

Yep. High winds and thunder storms yesterday and today and, because of the heat and humidity, we only did a 25 miler on Saturday.

I'd say HTFU, but you're far and above that already.. hope your weather improves soon.

Rainout all week here. Normally I'd just say screw it and take the week off. But I've got the Civil War Century coming up Saturday so I really need to get in at least a couple of workouts. So this morning I actually hauled the trainer out of the closet. I haven't actually set the bike up on it yet. The plan is to get on it tonight after work. I have my doubts if that will actually happen...

Don't know where in the Bay area you are at, but the weather around Flatwoods and New Tampa was perfect. I did 43 miles on Saturday morning, 34 on Sunday and another 32 on Monday. It was raining this morning on the way to work, so I'll see what it's like around 4 when I get off.

We're in Gulfport, at the SW corner of the Pinellas peninsula, and have had cells passing over day and night since Sunday.

We got in a quick 25 miler on Saturday but because of the time needed to get new pedals, the heat and humidity, and then meeting friends at Gekko Fest, our time was limited.

Yesterday afternoon, I made it eight miles before the rain and 40 mph gusts hit.

I hope your weather gets better. I woke up Tuesday, here in San Diego, and found the ground covered with a shiny substance. Then it hit me. It had rained. It reminded me of the torrential spritzing of 2010 and we all remember where we were for the broken sprinkler incident in 2004. Cheers.

Yup, been raining since yesterday in New England and will continue through Friday. I'm alternately cursing myself and congratulating myself for building up a rain bike.

LBKA. Rain soaks down into the liner, causing it to quit gripping my skin and slides right off, still attached to the pedal. It sucks in ways that you can only imagine.
