I was wrong. You're not an idiot because you ride a bike. You're just incapable of thinking and reading.
That was so nice of you to retract the accusation of me being an idiot. However, I don't understand why you complimented on being able to read and write so fast...I don't get it! Oh well! Thanks for all the praises. You're a real swell guy! :D - Slim :) |

This bickering between the two of you isn't a lead in to make up sex, right?
|
I try to acknowledge/good morning/wave to every person I pass who is on a bike, jogging, running, or doing any other sort of activity that I respect.
If I'm digging deep or truly focused on dropping a hammer on myself, I admit I've not waved back or initiated niceness. This morning I passed a guy who was riding the same direction as me, I told him on your left, and while I was passing I said good morning. He just stared at me, blankly, and didn't say a word. It's ass holes like that who give cyclists a bad name. I swear, the lack of conversational skills is what makes people think we are all arrogant ****s. It reminds me of the other day when I rode with the big boys... when I first got there in the morning, nobody was saying a word to each other, and when I got there I tried to say hi and was greeted with sneers. Bunch of dick holes. |

I wave or nod when passing. If stopped at a light, I small talk it up.
I was riding with my dad and we were talking bikes. I mentioned Cervelo and he said, "Yeah, those guys don't even wave." |

Now I'm the #1 fan of a soon to be gay president! I didn't even ask and you told...Oh well, I guess that's legal now! Huh? That's the problem with this country, we need more parties and more qualified candidates! Well I guess I can't campaign for Triumph either because you guys are in the same party! - Slim :) |

I drive a Corvette and the same unwritten rule applies but in the end I wave if I see the othe vette passing and if I dont oo well. I usually give a finger point from the hood on my bike if I pass another Biker but sometimes I dont get one back..oooo well life goes on.

In my town most people who ride bikes do it because they don't have cars. They are going to work, school, college, or shopping. They would no more say "hi" to another biker than one pedestrian would greet another stranger walking on a crowded main street.
I think if you are out riding for recreation you have a different, more relaxed, attitude than if you are on the bike because it is your main mode of transportation. So if someone doesn't say hi, don't take it personally. They might not be out having fun, they might be out on some serious business. |
We were once a more united people...However now, estrangement has become more famliar.
Distance and isolation has become our comfort zone. What good is community if we don't nurture and reinforce it. We simply must communicate. We don't have to stop and have long drawn out conversations or anything. All we're talking about here is just a simple wave, a nod, or a smile. Just acknowledege that another individual exists... - Slim :) |

Here, you just located two of the guys that don't want to wave back (probably because they are too busy trying to look hardcore)... I always give a friendly nod!
I go riding for the simple joy of riding. I just don't get people who get their panties in a knot just because someone ignores (or most likely did not see) their wave. If people wave or not is not really a big deal for me. Enjoy the ride! |

I do the universal man nod lol. Although when I go for my morning ride before classes, cyclists are much more friendly, idk why. They always wave, nod etc.

Whatever happened to "cogito, ergo, sum"??? Why do you feel this need to have your existence be acknowledge? Are you that starved for attention that a wave from a total stranger on a bike really ruins your day? I nod, wave...whatever...but if I don't get a response in kind, I tend to not dwell on it. There are things in life that matter more than your wave being acknowledged. Unless of course, getting attention is your priority in life.
So what if you're riding your bike...It's none of my concern, just ride your damned bike! So what if you've crashed your bike down the mountain...It's none of my concern, you should have been more careful! So what if those guys are mugging you...You should have been better prepared! So what if that guy is stealing your bike...You should have had a better lock! Just when and where does all of this distance $^iT stop! Hey! Hey! You! You! Get Off of My Cloud! I'm in this world alone and that's just how I prefer it! I think I know of a few countries like this...Always makes for great foreign affairs relationships when countries do this! -Slim :) |
