If I'm just sitting around watching tv, doing nothing, I'll usually try and do something else at the same time, like clean (or sometimes wax) my bike or some other dumb little project.

I just don't care whether the bike looks pristine.
If it's functioning, and not grimy, it just doesn't matter to me (after the garage door pic is taken) that it be pristine.
If you like waxing your bike that's fine.

With the addition of a new bike recently, I rebuilt my "old" bike. While I had it broken-down, I took the time to detail clean and polish/buff the frame. Figured it would be a good way to restore not only it's looks, but also my interest in that bike now that it's playing second fiddle.

Wax 1-2 times a year usually before the season and when putting on new cables and bar tape. It's really a necessity for steel frames to help protect the clear/paint to prevent rust.

Pedro's Bike Lust on the bikes with paint and Lemon Pledge on the Moots (as recommended by the factory). I do wipe down my bikes after every ride except my track bike.

I just use Pedro's Bike Lust to clean it. It supposedly protects against UV and does a good job of shining and definitely leaves the tubes slick to the touch. The bike gets dirty slower when I use it. Be cautious of overspray though as that stuff is SLIPPERY. I'm pretty sure it has silicone in it.

I use the same wax I use on my car. I'm too fat and too old to ride fast. At least the bike looks good.

working on dirty bikes sucks. especially the drivetrain so waxing the frame is just part of my normal regimen. i dont go nuts with it, maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
