Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The price sound right on this?

Found this on CL, I've been trying to find a decent first road bike for me. Anyone have any input based on the ad?

link

Also, if it helps, I'm 6'1'' and more leg than torso.

Edit: Is it me, or does the seatpost look a little funky?

that's good for a beater/commuter. Its something you can lock up in public and not worry about. price seems good provided the frame is in decent shape.

That's exactly what I'm going for here. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I've got a fairly nice mountain bike now, so I really don't know what to expect speed-wise with a road bike.

Thanks for the input!

From what I've read, the way to do that is making sure

1. legs almost fully extend when pedaling
2. elbows have some bend
3. can be comfortably straddled when stopped

Am I missing anything?

I think the seat is slid as far back as it goes and that is what makes the post look odd. When you test it you will want to adjust the saddle height for your self and while you are at it I would slide the saddle forward so the clamp is in the mid point of the rails. You may want to tweak it as you go but that would probably be a better starting point than where it is now.

By your description stand over height probably won't be an issue. Raise the saddle to a height where you can easily lock your leg back but not so high as you have to rock on the saddle as you pedal. As you said, some bend to the elbows. I'm guessing you will be raising the saddle compared to where it is now, and if you leave the bars at that height you will some saddle to bar drop. If your used to a mountain bike stance it may take some getting used to but it is the traditional drop bar set up.

As for price, if it really has all the new stuff the ad says then it's not bad. But the safety brake levers tend to indicate that it wasn't a high end bike to start with. And as others said, only buy anything if your confident that it will fit.

I just emailed the guy and told him I would give him $2,000 USD (US dollars) if he would ship the bike to Nigeria and Western Union my shipping partner $500 USD (US dollars)

So yo might have to give him $200 for it now!

oh yeah....

A few days ago I stumbled upon that Barack is offering out green notes

The main and reasons for this is they are attemping to frantically help people out.

Simply type "Gov Cinb" in to Google to read how to get some as my family did.

Cheers, Gypsy oliva
