Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When I turn up to cycling events here in Australia, I'm one of the few Canadians in the crowd.

I'm also one of the few cyclists in the world who has ridden four 1200 km randonnees on 3 different continents.

That's awesome. I'd love to do that randonneuring stuff one day. Maybe when I graduate and can spend some money on getting a bike to fit me, lights etc.

well, in a sociological context, minority has nothing to do with pure numbers. although, white christians are still not a minority...and i cannot recall any institutionalized discrimination against white christians, especially from the south...so id say, youre not one at all

well, you are introducing social class into the mix. while i would argue that today class has a larger impact on life chances, minorities in america have historically been targeted by institutionalized discrimination, which has had a direct effect on social class.

I've enjoyed it.

I started randonneuring 12 years ago. It has taken me all over place (Canada, Europe, Australia, and US so far), gave me the opportunity to meet all sorts of great people (including my husband), and allowed me to do something a little bit different with my cycling.

no. but if youre trying to swing some awkward affirmative action spin on this, i hope you are aware that white women were the group that most benefited from this. of course, you could always look to see if the percentage of college students from certain ethnic groups was represented in college populations. but, if we are going to use anecdotal evidence...

Not a minority, and to tell the truth couldn't give a damn about those that are on bikes. You like to bike, then ride. Nobody, and I mean nobody is stopping you. Otherwise, HTFU. With emphasis on the F U.

Besides, if minorities don't bike then us regular folks are deprived of a chance to discriminate against them. That just aint right.

One of the best things about cycling is no one cares what your color/beliefs/orientation/etc. are. At least in my parts.

Can you hold your line? Now that's important. So I suppose I am discriminatory against squirrels.
