Why no NFL jerseys?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, for our anniversary, my wife commissioned a custom made Packers cycling jersey and bib shorts! She rocks!

I grew up watching the NASL (North American Soccer League) that went belly up around 85 (coincidentally, my team was the last champs of that league their former coach became my college coach)... so yes, there has been pro soccer in the US, not to mention the MISL of the same era... now we have MLS... its not like soccer hasn't had many chances in this country... and they actually got national coverage as well as local market coverage on games back in the day... it just couldn't survive... as I said before, its a cultural thing, soccer just isn't a popular sport here... doesn't mean its a 'bad' sport and it certainly isn't from lack of exposure either... children have been taught soccer since they could walk in this country mostly cuz its one of the least expensive sports there is and literally anyone can participate...

I think your take on the relative importance of soccer in the US is dreadfully wrong... its not from lack of exposure or media or knowledge of it... baseball, basketball, and football are uniquely american sports that have only recently begun to have any appeal outside of the US... maybe if the european media and fans were not so ignorant of american football that sport would be bigger there, as would baseball... ugh

I answered this in the second post of this thread, but you idiots keep it going don't you? Mods, please move this thread to the Foo. This has to be the dumbest thread ever in the 41, and that says a lot.

Nope, I am just trying to brighten this thread up with a little bit of intelligence. It really seems to be lacking that here.

i know this probably isn't what you meant, but...

winter doesn't mean you stop riding, it means you put on warmer clothes and ride in crappy conditions. rule 9. you can ride all year long, if you really want to....

Mark, I am IN the media. Plenty of us in this business LOVE soccer but know that the majority of Americans do not. It's catching on but slowly. Another sport the global population seems to love? Cricket, that'll definitely never catch on here.

As for the whole soccer vs football argument - fail for both sides. The only True Sport is hockey.

Every thing else, like all things non-Scottish, is CRAP.
