Hot! Bonus hot for finding a Yeti road bike! Way to find a rare bike and make it look good. I love my 575.

I like the idea of red hoods, but I have no idea how to find replacements for these style brifters in that color anywhere. They are Sora's, early 2000s with thumb button. I think they are ST-3300s.

I doubt you'll find red hoods for older Sora. Hudz were more of a 5600/6600 and later thing. Red finishing tape is an easy way to add a little color in that area.

jrossbeck 01-16-15 02:02 PM

Yeah, that was my thought as well, I can get black replacement hoods, but colors are not likely to be found. I'll likely spin some red tape around the finish, and maybe spin some around the bar end as well just near the plug. White bottles with red caps. I'm still going to put red cork on the aeros, because the aero bars are a bit thin and don't feel right to me.

I appreciate the advice from everyone.

Thanks! Found the frame at a price I couldn't resist even though it's a hair larger than I usually ride, it keeps my Yeti Ultimate company, the 575 is a sweet ride!

Just over $2k - $1,300 bike + $800 wheels (that's if you don't count the set of Mavic Ksyriums that assploded on me :twitchy:).

I'm giving that a not, mostly because the red in the frame doesn't match the saddle and tape. Also, IMO, it is not really too "budget."

Just washed all the grit and grime off from a wet ride yesterday.

It started off as a Trek 5200, but when the CF frame developed a hole in the chain stay, I rebuilt it with a Nashbar road frame. It has full Ultegra components; drive train is 6700, everything else is 6600. I switch between the Specialized saddle and a Brooks B17 depending on my mood. The wheels are Mavic Open Pros and have kept my Clyde self comfortable for many hundreds of miles.

I'll put my budget bike here, not expensive enough to play with the big boys

Finally got around to snapping a pic of this bike that's been in front of my building for a while: an inspriation for you! I actually didn't notice the blue tire until this morning....

I love that rear brake cable. It's not playing by anyone's rules.

My Scott CR1 Team Edition, 1st how it was when I bought it (16.3 lbs) and 2nd as it is now (15.03 lbs) with just under $1000 total into it. I still have a few change to make, input is welcome.

Well, it shows that it lost some weight, but it's not like it really needed to, and those new wheels aren't helping the appearance any. For hotness points, I think your money would have been better spent on a decent looking crank set. Alternatively, from the starting point, I may have gone for an alloy stem and seatpost. Again, just as a matter of hotness; may not have helped with the weight loss.

You didn't really pay $1300 for that kestrel did you? New or used?

Thx for the input. If sure showes different likes, as I really like the look of the new wheels, they ride better and ate more stable. The crank / group set is Dura Ace 7800 and very reliable so I plan to keep it. I see whaf you mean about the alloy parts but I like the look and feel of carbon. Thx

I purchased her new in 2012 (2011 model) from Jenson USA. The MSRP was $1,600 I believe. It has been a great bike for me so far. I'm closing in 5,000 miles.

They are selling the current model for $1,400. Mine came with 105 cranks though... Kestrel Talon Road Bike 2015

This bike would be awesome with blue tape, white cables, a white saddle and a red rear tire.

OMG, now I want to to build one.

I'm sure your build will be more up-to date, with wheels with QR levers - color matched to the tires presumably. :)
Here's what you'd want for pedals:

May not be a stunner, and the lack of detail/closeup may be concealing something unappealing, but from here it looks hot enough. But is that a dork disk I see? If your derailleur is reliable, then you should take care of that.

I picked this up super cheap off Craigslist as a trainer/back up bike. It had a broken shifter that replaced with new Sora. Gave it new cables, brake pads and a clean and tune. Recently I bought a adapter so I could put on a modern bar and stem I had sitting around along with a seat post. I found a set Mavic elite wheels and tires for $100 along with a new saddle, bar tape and such I'd say I'm all in for less than $300.

Where's the Like button for that GT?

I also like the subtlety of the color of VwFix's bike. hard to do red with taste.
