Very nice - I like it. Really dig the big, semi-ghosted branding - it's definitely there, which is what the manufacturers care about, but it's not garish and distracting.

But it doesn't tell you how long I've been wearing glasses.

Here's my budget "nice rain bike" build assembled from ebay/craigslist finds.

2011 Charge Juicer frame/fork (Tange Prestige)
Shimergo setup (Chorus 11 levers shifting 9 speed DA/Ultegra)
Paul Racer M brakes
Coda/Cannondale branded DT hubs to Open Pros (rebuilt by me)
Deda Newton Shallows and PLT/PRO post and stem
SKS P35 fenders with Buddyflaps and Sheldon Nuts

This will eventually get Conti GP4000s in 28mm if they ever actually come out.

Here's my '12 Felt Z4 with sram red groupo. It took me a little over a year to ebay/craigslist the parts for cheap. All in all - $1453 invested for a 16.2lb bike that rides like a dream. The green is offensive to some…but I think it looks fast. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=428508

Couldn't you get some nicely curved bars? Also, straighten the seat, and you might have something pretty hot.

Wow - persistence and thrift went a long way there! Congrats! As mentioned in the full-price hot-or-not thread, I agree with Raiden about the bars/stem:

From a purely aesthetic point, the stem would look better (and probably end up placing the stem in the exact same position) if you flipped it and mounted it with all the spacers underneath.

Boy is that a beauty. I love French bikes with French parts. I've lost my enthusiasm for tubulars though.

BenPS 01-15-15 11:13 AM

not. frame looks alright for what it is, I like the black/blue color scheme, but mis-matched wheels kill it -- not to mention the bad photo angle, bottles in cages, and saddle bag.

Raiden 01-15-15 11:37 AM

I think blue of black cages would look better. I like the last couple Giants.

Sweet! Just curious, why the GP4000s? I know they claim wet weather grip, but they're a racer's tire- lightweight but not much to speak of for flat resistance. I ride 4 seasons as a compromise.

Need a little help here, I know the "after" pic is at a terrible angle, but the bike is currently on the basement on the trainer and I don't feel like dragging it off to take a pic. This is my "back up" bike. Picked it up for just over $100, and thus far I've got about $200 total into it (new pedals, seat, stem, saddle, tape, aero bars).

I just got a new saddle that I love the feel of, and now feel like I almost have to throw a touch more red on the bike. Was thinking of wrapping the top half of the aero bars in red cork. 'Merica?

Aero bars are decidedly NOT hot, but since it's on a trainer, they're forgivable. If you want to follow the saddle's lead, keep the bars white but get red hoods, and get some white bottles with red caps. That would be hot like the 4th of July!

Lazyass 01-16-15 06:24 AM

Bike is a 2012 Focus Culebro, Ultegra 6700, full carbon fork incl steerer. Bought it at a Performance Bike Labor Day sale in 2012. All additional parts were bought on sale/clearance. Didn't list anything I already had. 17lbs as it sits today.

Bike new $1200
Techlite Alloy whelset 1400g $250
Krylion Carbon tires $28x2
Selle Italia SLI $79
FSA 53/39 cranks $125
Ultegra 6701 chain $29.99
Ultegra CS-6700 12-25 $38
Race Face Cadence 130mm stem $19.99
Race Face Cadence compact bars $19.99

Yeah, I've found having the ability to lean on the aero bars for small time spells on the trainer really helps relieve shoulder and hand issues. I just get way too tense due to lack of movement inside.

I'm 100% with you on the white bottles. I like the idea of red hoods, but I have no idea how to find replacements for these style brifters in that color anywhere. They are Sora's, early 2000s with thumb button. I think they are ST-3300s.
