Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spinergy Xaero Lite Wheelset

Thinking about the Spinergy Xaero Lite wheelset for my second build project. Anyone have any experience with these wheels?

Wheel details:
Spokes: PBO
Front Wheel: 18
Rear Wheel: 24
Lacing: Radial, 2-Cross
Rim: 24mm light semi-aero, machined brake surface, Clincher Only
Hubs: Custom CNC machined, hidden flange front, Force-10 rear
Axles: Aerospace grade aluminum
Freehub: X-Change alloy
Compatibility: Shimano 8,9,10
Size: 700c
Weight: 1535g

I think this would be a decent all around set, but I have NO experience with their road wheelsets. I have ridden their MTB Enduro wheels with reasonable success. Minor truing, etc...

I've had Spinergy Stealth PBOs for about 5 years now and they're still true with no problems. The PBO spokes aren't the lightest around but they are very strong.

First price I saw for them was $535. For semi aero profile aluminum clincher (with round spokes?) that seems a little high. For 500 or less places like Boyd, Soul or Williams will get you a 30mm clincher with bladed spokes. Psimet might even be less.

I bought a pair of these off Ebay for $430 and i've been extremely pleased with their performance. I raced and trained on these hard and they have help up beautifully. Nice and light and they make for a very smooth ride. Some reviews said they could notice a flex, but these feel much stiffer than most 32-hole clinchers I've ridden and I've never noticed any sort of flex. Your probably going to want to replace the skewers with something nicer/lighter, but they will get the job done if needed.

Was thinking about them for my second bike/rain bike. Sub $500 was what I was thinking about, and their weight seemed right on target.

For the price I would do it. From my experience and from what I've heard from others they are pretty indestructible.

I bought these new 4 years ago for my Orca. Then I built a Litespeed for my girlfriend and I moved the wheels to her bike. 4 years and probably 10K miles, they are going strong. One of the best value in wheels I've experienced.

Check with Psimet. 24mm aren't that aero. Nor are they that light at 1535 grams. I would go for something that's at least 30 mm to get some aero benefits plus smaller spokes for the same or less weight.

Nice man! Which color spokes? I need to order some nice Ti skewers as well. If your going to use GPX4000's with em be warned, my hands almost fell off in the process of getting them on these damn wheels!

Also to StanSeven: I contacted Psimet twice about a wheel build when considering a new wheelset, but both times I never received a reply.

Ordered a set with white spokes, and also ordered a set of black KCNC Ti skewers. Will be perfect for my gray Spooky Skeletor frame. All I need are pedals and a seat post and I can begin the build up. Still considering selling my Rival shifters for funds towards RED shifters...

Plans are for Conty Force/Attack tire set for this build...
