Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Dang!, and I thought they were charging too much in the 80's when a Ciocc or Guerciotti steel frame was priced around $600!........

actually, the large majority of millionaires in this country are self-made. i agree with a remark that a million ain't what it used to be, but still, the best way to become a millionaire is to go out and get a million bucks

Many people make lousy choices, and the collective weight of those bad choices get them to bad places. That doesn't mean you can't succeed if you make good choices.

I get the data, that where your born as a statistical matter has a signficant influence on where you end up, on a population basis. That in no way means that an idividual cannot control to great degree how successful they are by the choices they make.

No. It's "I cannot afford it so anyone that can is dumb.". Keep things simple.

All these people had the same tickets in the lottery, and ended up in very different places by the choices they made, and possibly to a lesser degree their intelligence ( although its difficult to say whether superior academic performance was due to intelligence, or application.)
Equal opportunity does not equate to equal outcomes. This is something totally lost on a whole pile of folks these days who recently had their sayso in who will continue to run things.

What's wrong with you? Don't you know that all frames are made by Giant?

Careful, there, someone may accuse you of making a political statement. That may offend some members of the 47%.

(BTW I agree with you)

Well, generally speaking, given very large sample sizes...I think it actually does equate to equal outcomes.

In other words, in your world given the number of bike racers there are on the planet, there should be hundreds if not thousands of grand tour winners. You all had a bike. You all had a chance to race. Somewhere along the way the lack of talent or work ethic rears its ugly head.

It's the same reason why our bike shop succeeds when so many others fail. Work ethic and talent. Both started out the same, but somehow things change.

I don't really get the idea that someone has to be super rich to buy a halo bike. People blow $35K on cars that aren't even anything special (you can spend that much for a Honda Accord) and people barely bat an eye, but if the same guy buys a $25K car and a $10K bike, people look at him like he's done something absolutely bizarre.
