Getting a custom steel frame - opinions on paint/options? (big pics)

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I vote for blue or Pastell blue, with polished lugs. Not really the same colors below, but still gives you an idea.

I agree with the head tube mounted braze-ons. Enve fork is a good choice if I say so myself.

The pastel blue is very nice. Will give a subtle elegance and matches with polished lugs.

Had you thought of any contrasting bands or panels?

My newly acquired custom steel below (it's XCr, so I could have parts of the frame bare).

OP, saw your post on VS.
Go to the Italian steel thread for a Corsa GP(early one) in anthracite grey.

If you are not interested in replicating an older look, you should consider a tig-welded frame. With modern components and fork, I'd say wow.

For the fork I'm very likely going to go carbon, probably an Enve 1.0.

After a lot of looking through flickr, i've seen what Pelizzoli's colors look like in real life. More and more, i'm thinking full Anthracite Gray with maybe some blue Chris King hardware.

I would vote for the two tone using the two blues in your color samples. I am not a fancier of gray.

Also might consider a 3 tone with those 2 blues and some pearl white.

Lugged of course.

When I got my Lynskey, I was actually talked out of the Enve 1.0, they said there is no reason to spend the extra dough for a couple grams, the 2.0 is about as close to perfect is it can get. I trusted them, and have had no issues.

Am a junkie for 2 things that work only on steel frames: Lugs and chrome stays. Also am a blue junkie but that can go on other frame materials too.

I agree, I'm more about function then fashion. I love the ride quality of steel, and perfect fit of a custom build. For that, I'll live with the extra pound of frame weight, but I don't need any additional weight for frilly shaped lugs. The bike still turned out pretty sexy anyway (Yes, I know the picture should have been from the other side)

what color is that? do you have any larger pics?
I did, at one time, have a steel bike that was simply welded. I think i'm sure that I want there to be fillet brazing or simple lugs.

That color is Mod Grey:
https://www.powderbuythepound.com/MOD...-2_ounces.html
If you click on the thumbnail, it gets bigger. I ordered the powder from the website while the builder was making the frame, then he took the powder and the frame to the powder coater.
