Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Right now, I'm trying real hard to stay awake 'til 10pm. And I only rode like 10 miles yesterday.
I was surprised...I had already convinced myself to just drop off the back halfway through after the sprint climb....but I just had it in me to keep going. I guess good rest makes a world of difference.

Sounds like you came up on some fitness. Well done my friend.

Last night's open mic was a combination of humiliation and success. If I can derive some of the latter to go with the former, it's progress. I'll tell you what: it's far easier sitting in your house playing the guitar/singing that in a dark bar up on a little gnarly stage in front of a room full of half drunken bumfarkers. Mainly because the song we were playing was one me and this woman had rehearsed for 10 mins in a rainy parking lot. Later I was just playing the guitar with some guys up on stage and then I got to lead the band and sing on a blues standard I'm quite familiar with and that last number was the one that went well. Getting more confident in my lead guitar playing, which really makes it a blast.

I greatly prefer playing to the singing/playing, but it's the singing that may help land me in more playing situations, so sing I must.

All that being said, time to ride. Still soggy here.

Every once in a while I ride past an armory/indoor shooting range place. What could possibly go wrong around there?

I also do not feel safe riding past a nearby golf driving range, but for different reasons.

Joe Bonamassa is from your neck of the woods. When he was younger, in Bloodline, he had no idea he had a voice. Already a prodigy, once he discovered his voice was decent, he just plain took off. I saw him here in Colorado Springs for $5 in 2003. He has now played Albert Hall and I cannot afford tickets, but I can say I saw him when he was unknown.

It's not too late for you, Pcad. Keep playing and singing. You're probably better than your self-deprecating self wants to admit.

Bonamassa live at Pierre's. Shot in 2001. The final ten minutes are mind-blowing.

You know, a goose alone is no problem, but you get a pack of them together, and Geese can really crash a market. Wegman's bans Geese for just that reason, after they kicked the snot out of the Food Lion, which is really more of a Food ***** when it comes down to it.

Correct.

The guy's talent is mind blowing. I love his singing/song writing and playing. Hendrix's talent was mind blowing too, but I never LIKED him that much. I like JB.

When So It's Like That came out, the entire Pierre's show came as a bonus on DVD. I have that DVD, and it still rivals any SRV DVD I have, even live at Montreaux.

My ultimate guitar hero is Setzer - he's from even closer to you, Massapequa. Saw him in '82 and last time was 2007 for the Christmas show. Incredible live show.

If you want a copy of the Bonamassa DVD, I can see about burning it.

I still use a VCR to tape my TV shows. Not paying $7 a month for a service or equipment I will never own.

A VCR is an even more ancient form of storing TV shows and movies. In [the Air Force] Germany back in the 80's, our families would send us 8 hour tapes of MTV as it had not yet spread widely to Europe and we only got AFN. We'd all gather in the dayroom with a keg of beer and watch Slade, Billy Idol and Ozzy and play Risk.

Bikes: everywhere

I lived in Jersey when MTV hit the air. It was kind of a trip after just hearing JJ Jackson's voice on WPLJ, being able to see him sitting on a barstool introducing videos.

OK, that's enough sentimentalization.
