Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on Saddle choice

I'm thinking of getting a new saddle. I currently have a Selle Italia SLR XC (170g) in white with a green stripe down the middle. It's comfortable enough, but I'm not in love with it. My bike has a green theme, so I'm looking at another white/green or black/green saddle. My choices are:

FIZIK ARIONE CX BRAIDED TDF GREEN LTD EDITION SADDLE (169g)

FIZIK 2012 LIQUIGAS CANNONDALE ARIONE CX (205g)

Fizik Antares Carbon Braided Team Replica Liquigas Cannondale Saddle 2011 (145g)

I'm not sure whether I'm more suited to the Arione or the Antares. I find most saddles are comfortable and I would guess I have narrowish sit bones.

If I went for black/green I would change bar tape, cables and cages to black. Does anyone have any opinions on white or black, arione or antares?

Here's the bike:

Whichever one your a$$ feels better on is the saddle to buy. There should be no other criteria. Having said that, I would go with the ANtares for looks

Saddle is one of those things that color should come after fit. I would try to find a saddle that fits your a$$ the best first, and then see if you can get the color you want. Either all black or white saddle should work with your bike, but white would be better if you keep the white tape. I am not in love with the green stripes on the tyres; they tend to get old after the first a few months.

I do. The bars are clean in the first pic, which was taken after the second one. The astute observer will notice the pedal upgrade in the first shot proving this. While you're there, do you have any tips for removing fabric dye in shorts from my saddle or glove dye from the bars? Perhaps black saddle and tape is the way to go.

I ride the Arione, in fact I'm picking up a second one later today.
FIZIK ARIONE CX BRAIDED in white, & FIZIK ARIONE TT2 in all black.

FIZIK ARIONE CX BRAIDED black/green is apparently a Cavendish limited edition.
@least that's what one guy is selling it as...

@ the end of the day, it all comes down to fit.
If it fits you, get it. No use having a nice looking saddle that keeps you from logging in your weekly miles/kms quota.

The liquigas green won't really match your Felt green.

Watching the Giro now and the Liquigas jerseys and bikes don't match the Fizik saddles either. The shade of green in the white arione is quite close the green on my bike and tyres, but the black one looks as though it could be spot on. I'm going to have a look at them tomorrow. Might end up with both!

I have a liquigas team bike and had the saddle on it and it's the same green. Also have the full team kit. Was just pointing it out since the first green and black one looks like it matches better.

your LBS doesn't have Fizik test saddles? I found the Antares shape uncomfortable, personally. The Arione was more comfortable, but it's was too long. This was coming off a Flite style saddle.

I agree that the black one looks the best match from the photos. The Liquigas green is kind of a lime green, but the first white arione looks more of an emerald green which would match my bike OK. The guys in the Giro were riding the antares and it was definitely darker than their jerseys, although from the photos that green is more limey than the arione. Anyway, I went to the warehouse this morning, but neither saddle was in stock so I am none the wiser. I'll get them to order both in and I'll check them out next week.

I think one of the LBSs here does so I'll check them out this lunchtime. I don't think my ass is all that fussy on saddles, but with skinny hips/sit bones, a fair amount of saddle to bar drop, and coming from Selle Italia SLR and C2 saddles I think the Arione might be the best match for me. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with them.

The color can look different from the photos due to different lighting. The green is the same but it's a glossy surface which can change the color depending on the light.

If you want a white one with the darfer green you can order it custom from Fizik. Although I think the black and dark green would fit your bike really well.
