Want to replace a few things, thinking of just upgrading the whole group, worth it?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I was just informed today that the Campagnolo groupset plus the Khamsin wheelset came in and is waiting at home. So far, there are no other pending fees.

+1. The nameplates are only $8 each for 9-speed 105 shifters. Hoods, cables, and a chain are cheap. Take a look at an r4550 crank and BB on ebay if you want to go compact...or just grab a larger cassette. Glad the frame fits, but I wouldn't throw $600+ at it.

But Im approaching some maintenance needs and want to change out some things and thinking of just replacing the group. For starters, its got a 53/39 crank which I would like to swap out for a compact. Its also got a 12-25 9speed cassette which I would like to swap out for an 11-28. The chain and cables will also need replacing. The shifters and derailleurs work well, but the hoods have been torn up by the previous owner and they're all scuffed up and missing the flight deck caps. They work fine, but are a bit unsightly.

Anyway, it seems that my options are to throw a few hundreds dollars at some maintenance and upgrades, or I can get a brand new 5700 105 group on ebay for $639 and basically overhaul the entire drivetrain.

I may also be able to sell the old the group and offset the cost by $100 or so.

N+1 is not an option right now. What would BF do?
I'd replace the parts that are worn out or didn't suit my taste with the best combination of functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Along those lines I'm still running 1996 Campagnolo Chorus hubs, Athena headset, and Athena brakes. I just swapped shifters/derailleurs/crank/chain/cassette for 10 speed triple parts from 9 speed compact double because I wore out my rear derailleur, broke a spring which was no longer available in the shifter, and never liked how the compact works. In 2006 I swapped the crank and bottom bracket for a compact double because I'd worn out my big ring and bottom bracket along with a new front derailleur for the double. Sometime before that I installed new 9 speed freehubs on two rear wheels, index cam, and jockey wheels/pulley bolts after wearing out my 13-21 8 speed cassette and finding that combination discontinued.

Chorus will go five cogs smaller like most other ergo levers built since 1992 and most Campagnolo riders won't accept anything less.
