So yesterday I went out to get some KOMs and 10 miles from my house as I just went over the top where the KOM ended I went down. I was going maybe 20mph with my had down, not looking up trying to fight the head wind, next thing I know my front wheel is in a 4" deep road crack. Down I went sliding under the guardrail but my bike bounce around another 15 feet. Cracked my helmet in half but my all carbon bike didn't get damaged. Just had to make some adjustments to make it back home. Can't really remember the 10 mile ride home. As soon as my wife saw me, she said let's sue Strava (joking). Well I got my KOM.

If I had a wreck that cracked my helmet in half and I couldn't remember the ride home, I'd get to an emergency room immediately.

Good luck and speedy recovery. I've given up trying to bother with KOMs on Strava. If I get them, great. If not who cares. Not to burst the e-cred bubble, but there are tons of fast guys who are also not on Stava who would crush these KOMs if they ever signed up, so don't get too excited.

I'm good. Had much worse crashes. 15 years of MTN bike crashing left me brainless. Nothing to damage anymore.

Theres KOM's in my area that are ridiculously out of reach, 70+kms, or 15 secs up a huge climb?!?
It's obvious that these guys are using their cars to do these KOM's.

No offense, but as you get older you're supposed to get wiser. Walking around with a concussion can have serious, long-term (aka permanent) repercussions down the road. A word to the wise.

I am 4th / 435 on a descent near here. I broke 55mph on that descent.
Funny thing is I never even pedaled, it was pure coasting...with the most hellacious tail wind I ever had.

You can flag their rides if the speeds are abnormally fast.

take some time to pressure wash that deck while you recover. Some might suggest using a soapy solution and a brush, as it is better for the wood. I prefer big machinery.

The same holds true for car racing (which I also partook in)... If the "faster" guys aren't on the track, by their choice or ignorance, or whatever. That doesn't change the fact that of the people who are partaking in the racing cannot celebrate the fact that they've defeated other people willing to partake in it.

Your statement was akin to... "don't ever celebrate a personal victory or a victory, cause there are 23409283409823 other people out there who would dominate your victory, so don't bother.". Quite counterproductive, and lame.

I think Strava is the greatest thing that ever happened to cycling. I never rode so hard in my life before. I started diet today first time ever to loose 15lbs just so i can be even faster up the climbs. Never been so motovated.

It can't be that hard to figure that if a mammoth effort on a bike would see a rider holding 18-20mph up the hill, to drive it at 22mph with the GPS active and post it. Anyone driving at 40-50mph up the hill and posting it can't be surprised if nobody believes them.

You do realize that this is just about the last way Strava is going to want it's product advertised, right? To paraphrase your post

"I didn't used to ride hard, but then I discovered Strava, pushed myself beyond my limits trying to get one of their KOM's, got injured as a result of that (here's some photographic evidence) and possibly a concussion. Thanks Strava!"

I didn't used to ride hard, then I found the tour de xxx... I was so inspired by all those guys that I pushed myself harder and harder... until I crashed and injured myself.

Yeah, not really.

The point is that unless you've been living in a cave, this is the exact argument this being used against Strava in the current lawsuit. Other users popping up online doing the same thing isn't going to help. I like and use Strava, but they have a a bit of a PR issue outside of the cycling community IMO.

If you actually read his post, you'd see that it was a jab at those people.

And, it's about time the United States court's stood up and started making people be responsible for their actions. The lawsuits against Strava are frivolous at best. How you can hold anyone but yourself responsible for your actions is beside me... Especially grown ass people. This country makes me sad sometimes, so very sad.
