Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Got fit - Great results

Went and got fit at this place over in Ann Arbor here in Michigan. Jess who did my fit at Two Wheel Tango was fantastic. After many weeks of me on here posting about whether or not my Large GT Series 3 was big enough, not to mention going down to the LBS that I bought it from to try and talk to them without much luck. After about 5 seconds of looking at me and the bike, she told me the bike I had was about 2 sizes too small (I'm 6'4").

So, ended up having to dish out more cash but it was well worth it. Replaced the GTR with a Secteur Comp Apex (61cm!). The ride now is MUCH more comfortable and weather granting, I'm going to put a few miles on the bike tomorrow.

So ya, after about a month of frustration, this post is just me gushing about my new bike.

Sorry for the poor quality. iphone3 also, that it's not in front of a garage.

Happy Cycling!

That bike still looks small for you, if it's currently set up properly.

Interesting, because I'm about 6'5" with a 36" inseam and I just bought an Allez in April and it's 64cm and it seems to fit me fine. Of course I didn't have a professional fitting and I'm a newbie schmuck, I just know that it feels perfect for me.

Your Allez is a race geometry bike. The secteur is a comfort bike, that may account for at least some of the difference as well.

A good fit is priority number one after you have chosen the right bike for you. Whatever your LBS charges for a proper fitting is worth the money. It can change your entire outlook on cycling.

I would second this, but would say that ideally, a good fit is priority number one BEFORE you buy a new bike. A good fitter can help you determine not only your best size in a given model, but also WHICH models will work best for you. Bikes have different geometries, and what works well for one person might not work so well for another.

Yeah, and I think there's too much on this forum of people saying. Hey you are this tall, you need this bike etc. Fitting seems to be pretty personal. I have pretty tight hamstrings from being a desk jockey so the endurance bike fits the bill much better. I don't think I could get the right hip angle comfortably on an allez.

dleccord - It is 200 normally but since I bought a bike it was half off. It took all of the 2hrs scheduled. Nearly over even. There was one extra I bought though with the fitting. Some shoe inserts for my poor arch support. Helps my knee track better.

Yes. and it annoys me that the local store ordered me a bike too small without even doing so much as a measurement. I was foolish to just walk in and buy a bike like that, being a new wanabe rider I should have done a bit more research first. I guess I just figured the guy who ran the bike store would know what size is for me. Little did I know he would be so off.

I went to get a fit and bought a new bike....

Wouldn't it have worked out a few hundred dollars cheaper had you gone to a LBS (or done a little research on your own) first? Think of how much nicer a bike you could have if you had purchased the right one up front.

You misunderstand punkcat - I did go to my LBS first. Ended up with the GT. This place I went and got fitted at is about an hour away from me.

So, your LBS put you on a bike that was well too small?
Did they offer you a refund or something on the bike which enabled you to get the other one, or did you just eat it?

Yep they did, and no they didn't. Which annoys me to no end. I don't think I'll be going back there any time soon.

Dang man, that is harsh. It stinks when you go to a bike shop to utilize their expertise and get worked like that...and even worse when they won't make good on the mistake they made.
I guess the plus side is that you have a loaner bike, or could sell it as slightly used on CL.
