It was astonishing how badly that movie sucked given its excellent cast.

So I have a sound in my head. And every now and then I hear it coming out of my amp and my monitor @ home when I practice. More often lately than before. But the final thing is to get it to come out of the speakers when you're in front of a room full of people alone up on a stage @ some open mic when you're crapping your pants from nerves and self consciousness. It's nerve wracking, but it's a challenge. And I get a lot of positive feedback on the singing in particular, so I'm hoping that I'll meet some people to play with and maybe get a band together. My guitar playing is improving, but I go up there in front of these rooms and like I'm friggin skullfarked. But that goes with the territory. I've had a few moments where I thought I sounded like I wanted to. Mostly I keep crashing and burning, but hopefully not for too much longer.

People like that latest song I wrote, getting lots of good feedback on that. Gotta keep writing. It's not easy, but it's fun. When you do finally sound like you want to sound, even if it's alone in the basement, that's gratifying.

All things considered, we would have been better off if the world had ended. Particularly Mets fans. And the open mic audiences who have to listen to me, let's not forget them.

patentcad 12-30-12 04:47 AM

And another thing. We saw 'The Hobbit' last night, and it was great and all, but what were they thinking making that film 2:47? Should have been 2:30 tops, it would have been very easy to trim that bloated flick by 20 minutes. Hell, the whole opening sequence in Hobbiton could have been ten minutes shorter.

When the only idiots awake here are Pcad and Whooshhy, this thread is utterly effed.

Gotta get some serious miles in today. Only squeezed in 23 before that storm yesterday and the last 10 miles were tracking fresh snow.

Look on the brightside of things...it gave you extra time to stuff somemore extra buttered popcorn and milk duds down your piehole, to help you maintain your Solo gf like appearance...

They could have wrapped everything up in one movie if they would have followed the book but obviously Jackson is making The Hobbit into a prologue to LOTR. I'm really curious to see how they're going to stretch it out into a trilogy; the next one (The Desolation of Smaug) should be the last one but Jackson is reaching into the LOTR:ROTK's appendices for more stuff. I trust Jackson's ability to direct this trilogy, let's just hope it's as great as LOTR was.

Thanks buddy. I am trying to do just that. Well except, I don't like basketball.

It really was quite good, but the LOTR is a far more complex and compelling story than 'The Hobbit'. Still, they did a great job. I understand them wanting to milk the material for box office and all, so the three movie approach is fine with me (and I'm a long time hard core fan, I read the original books in the 60's when I was a kid). But three 2:20 movies is what I'd prefer, we don't need it bloated to over EIGHT HOURS in total for what really is a rather short book.

Gotta wait for the roads to soften up a bit. Snowed through last night and it's still only 24ºF here. The biggest impediment to riding in the winter isn't the cold, it's the road ice, and then it's particularly the ice riding down Mt. Doom. I don't like to park my car at the bottom of the road here (the main road is always much more clear immediately after storms). But I may have to do that later.

Foot of snow in the yard, low twenties. This is a more normal winter here. Last winter was like winter in NC around here it was so warm. I gauge it by the bike path. Last winter we only lost it for 3 days or so (they don't plow it). In a bad winter it's unrideable for 2+ months. That's how it looks this winter. Unless there is a prolonged thaw, that MUP will be iced over for a long time.

Hoo boy. Is he going to go back to the well for The Silmarillion, too?

I went to Chorus years ago because of the thumb shifters and the old Campy hoods. Fit perfectly. Excellent shifting.

The hood redesign was irritating. After a few years, they're growing on me. I'd still take the old ones, though.

True dat. What about the Fly Ti?

coasting 12-30-12 08:50 AM

if temp is freezing, then there is likely to be ice on the road. would you ride a road bike on those days and if so how do you avoid the ice?

Ice only if it snowed. We are quite arid here in COS, not a lot of moisture. When it does happen, it sticks pretty darn good. I find myself scouting possible routes while out driving.
