After crashing on black ice once or twice (once rather badly) I have learned this: if temps are below 45ºF and the pavement surface looks wet or shiny, assume it's icy. Generally you can see ice on the road surface. I can at least. I ride in sub freezing temps all winter. Black ice can exist on paved surfaces when the temp is considerably above freezing. We get a lot of days here where it rains or it snows and melts a bit and then it goes into a deep freeze overnight, so there is always ice potential.

I have brand loyalty issues. Paketa is another.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Snap On tools come to mind.

I need a new set of sockets. What should I get boys?

Banning women from doing things they like will significantly reduce your chances of romping with abandon through the perfumed gardens of Eros.

I did not think you used tools.

Ugh. As expected, the roads are too icy from yesterday's snow to ride. Even running is out.

So I went to the "Y" and swam.

Sheesh, if running is stupid then swimming is effin' moronic. I can at least do reasonably well on the run. My swim is full of suck.

coasting 12-30-12 09:30 AM

would it be impolite to suggest that anyone riding a road bike on slicks in freezing temp is missing a few screws in the head department?

RT 12-30-12 09:34 AM

Agree. Will be adding these to the cross bike by Weds. More snow tonight/tomorrow.

Gotta get some serious miles in today. Only squeezed in 23 before that storm yesterday and the last 10 miles were tracking fresh snow.

It is nice a sunny and clear. Hope to get a ride in latter today.

Dang, Datlas, you're a fitness addict.

Yes, we inquire about it once a month or so, it is now used as his rain bike.

Usually the most accurate suggestions are the most impolite.
