I'm surrounded by cuteness. I have Alley (older rat terrier) laying right up against me on my right and Izzy (puppy rat terrier) right up against me on the left. It's kind of like I'm in a full body splint.

now you just have to figure out how to teach them to get you stuff. that was the worst part about crutches. figuring out how to carry a cup of coffee. your leg is injured, but you can't use your hands.

I own one Apple product - an iPod classic 160Gb, which is big enough to hold my entire library a couple of times over. iTunes is also a decent way to get music.
iPhone? No way no how. My BlackBerry is WAY more useful - and BB10 is going to rock.
Same with tablets - iPad is a pretty toy. But my BB Playbook (which I got at a fire sale price of $180) is amazingly useful - and unlike the iPad, multitasks. Amazing that we threw rocks at Apple's lack of multitasking all the way through the 90s and they STILL haven't got it.
I did Amiga until C= died. Then I was on a Mac (which I ran on an emulator on my Amiga - it ran faster than a native Mac) Then a PowerMac. But when Windows XP and Linux became advanced enough, I could not drop Apple too quickly.
Now my main home machine is a Linux box (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) My wife has an iMac-esque touchscreen Gateway all-in-one running Win7 that is basically a Facebook machine. I have a Windows laptop for gaming (although Steam is coming to Linux so maybe that will change) and for software for which there is no Linux equivelent - SolidWorks, SportTracks, various engineering software packages. And my old gaming laptop is now a dedicated Computrainer machine. Oh, and there is a Toughbook running XP for programming the EFI computer in the sportscar.

Have you seen/tried Big Picture mode? I may give it a try for the living room, but there's an emphasis on console-type controllers - don't know if I can move back to that after years of kb/mouse.

same here, a childhood of sprain/strained ankles with some a upsilon breaks all treated by my dad with strips of bed sheets left me with ankles that can displace forward 1.5 inches. One of the reasons I bike- can't do anything else.

Think I'll sue my dad- wait, he's dead. Well eventually we'll meet again and I shall complain.

Sprained my ankle playing basketball in 1980 while in high school, then in my 30's, drinking brought on the gout. About twice a year that ankle looked like LC's, and it sucked something awful. No more drinking = no more gout. Sorry LC, that looks painful.

about once a year my brother goes on a pork chop or raw beef binge and it brings on the gout. (for some reason, those two things are always the trigger) he's a big, toughguy type, and from the looks of him when he gets it, i'd rather sprain my ankle again.

You can tell gout is serious **** because it gets a "The", much like The Plague.

I had the exact same reaction when I first trialed a Lisa, the predecessor to the Mac. When they released the Mac less than a year later I was hook, line & sinkered . . . I didn't have to be reeled in, I swam to the boat and jumped in.

I was around for the Classic and LC rollout, around OS4. At the time, it was kinda cool (1988-1990). No one could have imagined where technology would be twenty years later. With the advent of the flip-phone, Star Trek comparisons no longer seemed outlandish.
My great grandad passed in 1976 (b. 1888). He saw us go from horse and carriage to space shuttle. I hope only to see a colony on Mars before I move on.

thanks for the replys.
quitting soccer has pretty much solved my fear of re-spraining. after snapping something in both of my calves (one is now sort of mishapen?) i finally figured out that soccer was stupid. i should have stuck to the bicycle.

Easy to say now, but it was an epic moment. When you see something change the world, and you're standing right there actually working in the discipline where the change occurs (human factors design) and it affects your work immediately in a positive way, you tend to get a little excited. At that moment, the quantum leap from command line interface to GUI was nothing short of earth shattering. (And before you point out the well known fact that Apple didn't invent GUI, I must remind you that they were the first to figure out what to do with it, as xerox had no clue. Thankfully somebody did.)

The company for which I worked put that technology to good use, too. I worked on the fun side of Highway 17 in Scotts Valley, across from Seagate, Borland, SCO etc. Doesn't seem like that long ago... (harp music)
