The "completely ignorant of traffic laws showdown" at 4-way stops.

Only bested by the "I absolutely refuse to move this car until that guy on the bike who got here several seconds after me goes standoff"

Motorists who make a point to get past me so they can pull up to the red light and stop with me right there behind them.

What's so annoying about that to me is that this is due, in my estimation, to motorists' outright refusal to think. I think it just doesn't register in their heads how pointless this is. I really think motorists turn their brains off when they crank their vehicle. The only neuron still firing is the one that says how can I get to my destination as quickly as possible, without regard to anyone or anything around. How often I've watched motorists drive into potholes when a nudge of the steering wheel would save $100 for an alignment. How often I've watched motorists keep on the gas, approaching the next red light, until the last moment to brake - it's always either pressing the gas or pressing the brake. How often I've wondered at what they think to see little ol' me, spinning along at a steady speed, keeping pace on my bicycle. Then I stop wondering because the question is moot - they're not thinking at all!

Crazy to think of the energy to move two tons of steel and one fattening-by-the-day motorist no faster through town than 24 pounds of steel and one happy cyclist.

And cause for concern. That same endemic refusal to think is also, more than often than not, I'd bet, the cause of accidents. The infamous right hook? Yeah, it's the result of a motorist whose one thought is to get past any perceived hindrance and straight on to that parking lot.

Oh yes - one other pet peeve: cars in need of a tune up. Not fond of foul exhaust!

I just stand there and look the other direction until they decide to go.

As bad as a lot of drivers are at 4-way stops with bikes, they're worse when you're on a motorcycle.

People who do understand word wrap on emails and forums.

banerjek 01-30-13 03:42 PM

People who want to show me something but speak/work extremely slowly. If you know what you're doing, no need to plod along. It only makes everything take forever.

That reminds me.

Adults who speak to small children in baby talk. It should be painfully obvious why you should speak to a child with proper grammar and pronunciation, but apparently for some people it is not.

Nashbar and the way they price things. Raise the price then lower it and call it a sale then raise it and give 20% off to make it the same price it was.

I've gotten so tired of this that if I do NOT have the right of way, I *REFUSE* to make eye contact with other drivers in these situations. Then they can't screw everything up by being "polite" 'cause I won't look at them. Makes 'em go ahead and GO!

Cyclists that ***** and moan about car drivers. Cyclists are a nuisance on the road. Motorists hate cyclists. Thats all there is to it. Ride accordingly.

No kidding. I have learned to pace myself, find the price at which it is most often, then compare to other resources online. Just got some 105 levers for $221. I haven't been able to beat that anywhere, but it took time.

Harley riders with open pipes who think they are Mad Max of the wasteland.

The latest funny thing these twerp§ are doing now is wearing face masks with a skull on it.

nondes 01-31-13 08:14 AM

My wife and I were out for a quiet country ride on our tandem a few years ago when we got mixed up with some sort of Harley convention. On two occasions about fifty bikes passed us, and every one of them made the walls of my chest vibrate. But of course it's a safety feature...

cmtbiz 01-31-13 08:25 AM

People on the other road bike forums, would give you a poor rating because he thinks that he is better than anyone else. A person who do not know how to mind his own business. Why would a person rate you for which you are not selling anything nor trying to write a novel?... answer: s.t.u.p.i.d. That person is obviously has a boring life and have no better things to do.

cmtbiz 01-31-13 08:27 AM

OMG.. I didnt realize that.. I always thought they have better deals and always have stuffs on sale. Always got me excited from that site!! LOL

Nope. Nashbar (and their sister store, Performance), are notorious for having relatively high "base" prices and then having sales. You might get 20% from the sale and an extra 10% off from a coupon etc. and you think you are getting the deal of the century.

The take-home is that if you are looking for some bike schwag, you should compare what you get from these sites with other sites, including ebay and some of the UK sites (probikekit, etc.). Sometimes Nashbar/Performance do put items on clearance or a real sale, and then you can pounce.
