Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I started riding around the end of February 2012. That is when I got my first road bike. I did just over 2300 miles, 4 centuries (two of those were really one ride, the Seattle to Portland 200 miles in 2 days, which was my big goal for my first year), and a solid 20 pound weight loss that is staying off. Goals for this year? Shed a few more pounds, and ride a lot more.

Sounds like an awesome first year. Keep it up.

Thanks, I plan on it! Never considered myself an athlete at all. Never much cared for working out. But in cycling I have found something that keeps me interested in the sport and motivated to push myself in a way that no other form of excercise has. I'm very glad I started riding or else that 20 pound weight loss could have easily been another 20 pound gain.

13,047 miles, with 5,776 of that being on the tandem. No idea on climbing or hours. 194 rides.

I got in 363 hours on 143 rides from Jan. 1 through mid. September, according to my Garmin files. I don't track miles.

I'd probably have more than 500 hours for the year had I not suffered a partially torn tendon in my knee in Early September. I am only now starting to get some consistent riding in again.

136 rides, 2702 miles, 97,733 elevation, 159h 58m 59s of moving time.

A couple injuries but no crashes. All in a all, a good first year on a road bike.

4381 miles.

Sorry, I don't have it broken down by bike, terrain, type of ride, wind direction, or what I was wearing.

Thanks but it didn't do that for me. Not really important. I was just wondering.

A little over 3,800 miles with slightly more than 207,000 vertical feet of climbing.
To the extent that I had any cycling goals for 2012, which I basically didn't, I am overall pretty happy.
Now I'm toying with the idea of setting some tougher goals for 2013.

The last two years mine looked just like yours below.

Just tested it again by copying and pasting, and it gave a table like my previous one (viewed in advanced mode it had much HTML table coding).

Dunno. Maybe I am special in the cycling community? Special Ed, perhaps.... Haha.

2307mi for 2012

Not all that impressive, but I'm still pleased with it.

This includes road, singlespeed road and mountain.

Only did 5,600 miles this year which is down a little for me. That brings my total miles up to a little over 187,000 miles since I started recording miles in April, 1982.

Last year was my second full year of cycling. More than doubled the distance I did in 2011. Lost around 20lbs. Average solo speeds improved from the 13-15mph range to 16-18mph. Fastest group ride was 54miles/2500ft @ 19.5mph in September (dropped so solo after 25m).

Goals for this year are to break 20mph solo average over 20+ miles rolling terrain, lose another 10lbs, be able to complete 2nd tier fast club rides without getting dropped (22mph average in summer), and perhaps do a century or two.

Total rides:300
Total distance:5676 mi
Total elevation:312645 ft
Total time:365:58:26
Longest ride:73.1 mi
Max elevation:5102 ft
