Wonder if I could live with 40cm road bars...

I don't know. I'm watching Vicar of Dibley.

What channel is that on?

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:21 PM

I'm playing the google.com zamboni game.

What do you normally use?

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:30 PM

Hmmmm, looks like 16" ctc, 17" oto. Guess I gotta do some converting and looking up how they measure road bars again.

Retro.

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:33 PM

Egads, I'm running approx 43.18 oto.

Don't think I can drop to 40, even if they are badass bars for $13.

Centre to centre of the drop tube. 16" = 400mm or 40cm.

Otherwise, outside of left shoulder straight across to outside of right shoulder.

I think.

Sounds like you'd be running 420mm/42cm bars

What flare is there on your current bars?

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:35 PM

Some old post I dug up said the Italians do OTO, and the $13 40cm bars are Italian.

Rowan 01-15-13 11:36 PM

Don't worry about me... I'm just post-padding ;)

Rowan 01-15-13 11:37 PM

Typical Italians have to do everything differently from everyone else.

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:39 PM

I guess I should do more of that too. Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat, frightened by the dream where coasting beat me to 15k posts. :)

LesterOfPuppets 01-15-13 11:45 PM

Speaking of the Italians...

You're 207 posts behind.

Well, the Italians could have kept the human heads and returned horses' ones...

Looks like Holy Motors is gonna hit the big screen in my sleepy little burg. So very excited!

Snowed pretty good here overnight, still coming down, I think it will amount to 5-6".

Lester, just wanted to let you know I'm here to guide you on your journey towards road biking, ie plastic bikes and offensively tight clothing.

I shuddered a little reading your thoughts on discerning a bar size. Listen closely now. You could use anything from 44-40 bars quite happily and adapt to their properties. Worry more about reach, drop, and bar shape. You can feasibly amass a small collection of bars and stems for testing purposes at a very low price. Trying someone out for a couple weeks and making corrections as needed is the only way to determine your personal preferences. Stop thinking like a mountain biker and only worrying about how wide your bars are.

How's Sam this morning?

He'll be fine for a while I think. My vet gave him 3-4 months, but he than said you never know with canine cancer, he's had some dogs survive up to a year with this.

Hoping Sam is on the long end.
