good times...

Did you really just ask CAAD vs... anything? And I like the CAAD looks better.

Yes, I think I'm going with the CAAD. I was testing my pic posting skills for the masses.

I must admit I went to "that" thread in trollheim. mostly so I could put the trollheim regulars on ignore, so I don't have to see their crap out in the open forums.

Not for nothing, but if you can't call the idiots of BF idiots, there's no point to even being in this think tank in the first place.

what did he say? I must have missed it.

There is some of that. I strongly feel most people know they have the disease, but they either figure they'll die happy, or it's simply beyond them to do anything about it. Probably a bit more of the latter. I am equally convinced that the day will come when medical science may have the ability to intervene in some effective way to curtail this behavior. People that are alcoholic are simply wired differently; the idea that most people choose to be that way is not what I have observed, and I'm confident I've spent much more time around drunks (active and recovering) than 99% of the people here.

Not a triathlete but I have swum, ran and ridden...just seperately. I whole heartedly agree. I used to swim competitively all through school since about 8 and even at my complete lowest level of fitness and highest level of fatness, I could beat fit sporty people who cannot were not swimmers when little...obviously just for a short distance. It is technique that you don't lose, just like cycling.

Go veggie. Damn, I want a steak right now.

Funny how the researchers from Harvard, Cornell, Oxford all say this. Maybe this will become a trend amongst health conscious people.

When we were racing sailboats together my wife and I often brought home pickle dishes for the winning races and we almost always won the party after.

I got really fat and she learned to live a day at a time. There were some hard times.

Nothing like being fit and training swimming for a few years, then having an out of shape ex college swimmer girl show up to masters' practice and wallop you on her first day back in the water after five years off.

Hypothetically, of course.

coasting 01-30-13 08:50 PM

I am very thankful to my school for making me do so much sports and I feel sorry for kids today who do not. All the simming training and cross country running and football etc. through the age of puberty built up a strong heart and since muscle only wastes away if not used, the heart will remain strong for evar. Even when unfit, my resting heart rate doesn't get above mid 50s and never has. I know fit people who got fit only as adults and their heart rates are higher.

Quite right, which is why I took offense to someone with a fresh DUI saying that we had an inappropriate view of alcohol.

coasting 01-30-13 08:55 PM

I remember we used to do just legs and then just arms. That really helped. I'm not sure which is more important, it was so long ao, but my legs were much better. I could motor up and down the pool on legs like little propellers.

datlas 01-30-13 09:05 PM

Just back from the pool.

I swam 1000m. It took approx 24 minutes. That's slow. Not pitifully slow, but still slow.

BTW I am meeting with a coach next week. I am hoping that will help.

I dunno about swimming, but I have found having a coach helpful for the bike. Partly for my cluelessness in understanding how to train, but also for helping to commit to said plan. Spending the money to have him do that makes me more likely to do the work.... not to mention he yells at me if I do it wrong.

YMMV.

When I lived in Breckenridge CO my school (public) gave a choice of skiing or ice skating.
It was totally free for everyone and I really enjoyed it. I chose skiing.

BillyD 01-30-13 09:22 PM

I'm not giving up eating meat. Living long is overrated.

Did the article say you live longer by not eating meat, or just that you would be less likely to die of heart disease?

I think many vegetarians are more likely to die from a punch in the nose from a meat eater who is tired of hearing about how superior their diet is.

That's true. I can't remember who said it...do you live longer or does it just feel like you do.

Exactly. How can they defend themselves fueled by cauliflower? C'mon now.
