AND the sun has come out! Cant wait til lunchtime, gonna trade the commuterized Mongoose in for the worlds heaviest road bike and go for a long road ride into Portland.

Still rainy. I got some Yaktraxs for my shoes, 'cause it'll be icy tonight.

???

It's 66F outside.

Sadly, it's also wet. What a waste.

Second, I know very few people that could not have been busted for a DUI at one point or another in their lives.
Well, then you can add me to the list of the few then, because I never, ever, ever have gotten behind the wheel drunk.

And it's not like I'm a teetotaller either; in fact, prior to joining the Army, I was well down the road to alcoholism. (Ironic that the Army reduced my drinking).

But even at my lowest point, never not once did I drive drunk. Frankly, it is an easy choice to make.

That is awesome. I can't say the same. I have been behind the wheel legally drunk (as little as two beers with the new laws) more than one time in my life.

Also our social mores have changed because the activity has proven to be so deadly. Drinking and driving was once accepted, hell almost encouraged. The idea that any of did something stupid when we were young does not remove the ability, with new information and the wisdom born of age, to say "hey that's a really dumb thing to do."

The legal limit in Colorado is .05 BAC. To be convicted, a prosecutor must show that you were operating a motor vehicle when your ability to do so was impaired to the slightest degree by alcohol/drugs.

I'm not drunk at a .05 BAC.

Kind of my point, I'm sure I am wrong though.

Even ONE drink will cause some impairment. Where you draw the line on BAC threshold is of course somewhat arbitrary, and is always going to be a trade-off.

I'll say. We used to call beers road sodas. When I was 20 years old I could drive a stickshift VW or Japanese car, drink a Bud, smoke a Marlboro and roll a joint simultaneously with China Cat Sunflower crankin on the cassette deck. Those were the days.

Don't ask me how I ever survived them. At least I can remember it.

OK, parts of it.

i've been thinking about whether it's a regional thing, or age related. maybe a little of both.

driving at any level of intoxication is pretty common and accepted around here. (not that that's right, it's just how it is) so i was really surprised a couple years ago when my mid-20s coworker very matter of factly talked about how all of their friends always make sure to have a DD when they go out. it was actually pretty refreshing to hear about people being more responsible.

Do you like the Yaktrax, Mr. rjones28? I used them a few times hiking and thought that they were crappy. If on ice, wonderful, but one step onto bare rock and they were more slippery than ice. They ended up spending more time riding around in my pack than traveling on my trotters.

Don't know yet. Never used them before. They are intended for evening outings with Benson which are confined to my snowshoe tracks. Those tracks get kind of slippery at night.
