Ditto. But I still picture the George Stienbrenner of Seinfeld every time Gary posts.

I don't really feel the impulse or inclination to defend myself, so sorry you're seeing as that. You expressed an opinion. I offered a counter view. That you see things through a particular lens is ok. I don't have a need to change your view.

Is there a prozac shortage on the interweb? And what is the kitten control incident?

gsteinb 01-12-13 07:58 AM

I think it's an indie band.

Last month the gun nut talk got out of control. So every mention of "gun" was replaced with "kitten". I thought it was pretty smart moderation.

It was a candid discussion about whether control of semi-automatic kittens, and the size of their litter boxes, would reduce the frequency of mass pettings in the US of A.

coasting 01-12-13 08:01 AM

so the months i was less around last year, sounds like a lot happened.

RUOkie 01-12-13 08:05 AM

And we missed you.

Everyone is entitled to a break from time to time.

Really? Discussions on "Primes vs Zooms" on some of the photography forums that I visit make this place look genteel in that extended-pinkie-while-drinking-tea kind of way. And then there's high-end audio forums... hoo boy.

Hell in a handbasket without your sensibility to keep things on the level.

Worst I have seen have been r/c car forums. It's amazing how much grown men can argue about toys.

RUOkie 01-12-13 08:34 AM

There are other online forums? And I've been wasting my time here all these years?

It's all toys. All of it. And yes, we're protective over our choices in toys.

rjones28 01-12-13 08:56 AM

Phew. That was close.

Naturally. I mean he was surrounded by kittens and they still got him.

coasting 01-12-13 09:18 AM

I would like to say I missed you all, but we all know that would be a lie. Oh you bunch of softies! Gimme a hug. Now get lost.

I'll wholeheartedly second this. I can only imagine the effort involved in being a mod and in my limited experience with any, I think they do a great job.

And lets face it, there's a lot of leeway in this thread that isn't in the general forum, so a kitten purging is much better than some alternatives.

Over the years, I have allowed myself (and still do on occasion) to be provoked for no good reason, and I retaliate in kind. I have gotten better at letting it go, but I am not perfect.

My point is that there is thick skin in the traditional sense; not allowing criticism get to you, then there is the internet brand of thick skin, which is an industrial grade asbestos body suit.

I come in here (this thread) for entertainment. For the most part, that's what happens - entertainment. A loosely run thread on a loosely run board is bound to spill over the boundaries of civility and common courtesy. This has been the most contentious Addiction I have been a part of, mostly because as sbxx1985 pointed out, I 'bad mouthed' this thread for its most recognized trait - padding post count.

So shoot me - I bad mouthed a thread.

So, let me 'splain...no, too much. Let me sum up. I'll do my part to keep it civil, but only because that body suit is uncomfortable and I can't drink my coffee while wearing it.

You should have been here a couple of winters ago. We were getting shut down for "clean up" about once a week.
