Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Decisions Decisions...

Hello All,

I am in the market for a road bike in the 1800-2200$ range and have been captivated by the latest from lapierre. (https://www.lapierre-bikes.co.uk/road)

Now here is my predicament and maybe you all can give me some guidance...

I am considering either the sensium 100, sensium 200, xelius 100, or xelius 200.

Looks wise, I think they are all great looking bikes (let me know what you think looks best!), however there is a large disparity in components, from the tiagra outfitted sensium 100 to the ultegra equipped xelius 200.

This will be my first road bike purchase and I am leaning towards the sensium 200 because I think my first upgrade on any of the bikes listed would be wheels, and with 105's already on the bike, I wouldn't feel a huge urge to upgrade the group right away like I would if I was riding the tiagra bike. I think that either of the frames would be fine for me (the sensium 100 and 200 have the same frame, and i believe the xelius 100 and 200 also share frames). The kicker is that I eventually want to upgrade to SRAM rival or force on the bike that I purchase and move the group that the bike comes with onto an old aluminum trek that I already have (I would do the same with a new wheel set).

Also, if there is a different bike you would recommend in the same range, let me know and any advice is much appreciated. If I have posted this in the wrong section, I apologize.

Those prices seem a bit steep for buying a bicycle on the internet, if that's how they work. And if you're located in the US - I'm not sure you are, but you did use "$" as a currency, so I'll go out on a limb about that. (And no, just by listing a UK site doesn't mean that's where you are - I order most of my bike odds and ends from UK sites, and I'm in the US...)

And IMO, if you want to upgrade to SRAM Rival, it's best to just buy a new bike with SRAM Rival.

You can get yourself an SRAM Rival build for $1300:

https://www.neuvationcycling.com/prod...rival-1398.htm

That leaves you $500-$900 for a frameset, say like this:

https://www.novemberbicycles.com/frameset/

Then you'd have a nice Neuvation frameset left over.

And if you are in the US, there's always https://www.bikesdirect.com. Their business model doesn't provide much margin for customer service, but since you're posting about moving groupsets from one frame to another, maybe you don't need much help to service your own bikes.
