Used to be a guy who built durable inexpensive wheels for a lot of guys on here. As I recall theu werent very flash but they were very very solid and very affordably priced. He had a very basic website. Everyone liked his product. Anyone remember? I think his name was chris(maybe?).

There are many folk offering the service you're seeking on the web; I would just make sure they carry insurance coverage in the event of you getting injured through using a wheel they've built/worked on/tweaked. HTH -

^^^ THIS is exactly why I'd never get into a bicycling business. I LOVE buidling wheels, I'm addicted. I build them well, I trust them under me, even my wife and son ride on wheels that I've built. If I didn't know what I was doing, I wouldn't dare put the people I love on my wheels. BUT... too many folks look for a place to put them blame when they get hurt participating in a somewhat dangerous sport, and I won't let that be me.

I've built many 26" for myself over the last 30 years and trued wheels for others.
But never built for anyone.

Anymore it seems 30% cheaper to just buy decent wheels.

Never bought from them but check out bicyclewheelwharehouse or bikeisland for wheel sets... just a thought.

This seems to be correct. I bought a few rims from him about a year ago when he liquidated stock on ebay.

To OP, if you are looking for handbuilts with options check out Boyd or November. If you want full custom try Psimet, wheelbuilder.com or prowheelbuilder.com. All have happy customers on this forum.

I'd shoot Rob at Psimet a email through his website: https://www.psimet.com/ , tell him what you want in your wheels and let him give you a quote. If he doesn't do the type and spoke count you want he will be straight with you.

Just looking for inexpensive and bullet proof wheels. Im around 205 right now. I dont care if they are light, or fancy. Just rock solid and as cheap as possible.

Why not build them yourself?

I got something just like that from Sugar Wheel Works in Portland. Had a nice set built for a good price. They are indeed bulletproof and haven't been touched even once since I got them. I had my "upgraded" to a White Industries hub which upped the price a bit, but talk to them and they'll lay out a lot of options for you.

The only wheelset that I was (notice I said WAS) ever 100% happy with was the set I built for myself waaaay back in early '77 with the help of friends at the Ohio State University cycling club... Phil Wood hubs, 14/15/14 butted stainless spokes and (I think) Mavic MA2 narrow 27" rims. Those were some sa-wwwweeeeet wheels back in the day! I know that they lasted for almost 30k miles! Never a broken spoke until that unfortunate pothole ruined the rear wheel while on a minimalist solo tour on my way back home though rural Indiana in July '80. I'd kill for those wheels today. Alas, building a set of those those wheels today would greatly exceed the value of my old Fuji!
