Personally I think the pink is great although according to Mike and Dave at November "Red is the fastest color" I tend to agree and have them on my bike as well. I swear Bianchi, you'll start to like the angry bee, plus it becomes a benchmark for your speed, already if I don't hear it nice and loud I know that I'm going too slow and push myself harder, ha!

When do you go for the next set?

I go in Thursday or Friday. Probably do Thursday because Friday is supposed to be super nice and I will want to ride and not waste time getting the new wheels.

OP, any thoughts on the tire pressure with those rims--as in does it seem adequate? Do you mind if I ask your weight?

I like the tired pressure with this size rim. Butter smooth! I feel that it corners better and the larger contact with the road can be felt. I was expecting it to feel spongy with such a lower psi, but it wasnt at all. I was riding 25mm tires on my boyds and it was a comfy improvement, but I like the 23/23 combo even more.

I weigh 170-175

Been doing some thinking today about what I wanted in a wheel Before this process . First things that came to my mind:

lightweight (1200-1350g)
38-46 deep wheel
Durable and will last me a while
Not wanting to spend more that $650

I look at this list and I think to myself what is most important from this list and what can I be flexible with. The biggest Thing that sticks out to me is the 38-46mm wheel part. I'm having a very difficult time letting this part go and I don't know why. I ask myself, why is it so important for me to have a deeper wheel set when Aero is not on my list, when most of my riding contains climbing. I think its because I have been so influenced by pictures and threads like"hot r not". I have this image in my head about what I want my bike to look like instead of what I want my bike to perform like. Almost like I'm trying to live up to a standard of what a great bike looks like.

This sounds Bad when I read it out loud, but I actually think of this as a break through for me. I'm using this thread as a journal for myself, so there is no need to call me out or anything for feeling this way. IF ANYTHING I feel that I need reassurance and validation that I am on the right path. I think of it as a break through because before this process, I had never thought of going with a smaller depth wheel because I always had it in my mind that having a deeper dish was so bad ass. Now I'm starting to think about what will benefit the type of riding that I do and not try to accommodate a set up based on how I want my bike to look.

I have this process to thank and really feel that I have made some headway in a short amount of time. I am really looking forward to getting my new set and continuing to learn more about what I want.

So far here is what I feel has changed in my list of wants:

-wheel weight-still Want A lighter wheel but it is unknown for me till I test out some more wheels. Especially since I have seen several benefits out of this wheel which I know is heavier than my Boyd's but still unaware of how much. At this point I am uncertain if the benefits are from the weight of the wheel, the hubs, the width or a combination of it all.
-Stiffer wheel
-leaning toward a 23mm wide rim
-want to keep it under $1k
-mid to high end hubs


I hope to take wheels back on Thursday and walk out with new ones ready to go. Thank you all for contributing.

I voluntarily went from 1500g clinchers to 1900g clinchers last week because I wanted a power tap. I know exactly what you mean about being unwilling to let your preconceptions go!

Just a suggestion for you and what I ended up doing. There is no one wheel set that could possibly attain everyone of your wants and needs so why try. Obviously your budget is not unlimited so maybe this season you buy a climbing wheelset. Something relatively stiff and relatively light. Next season you can pop for that deep aero wheel set that you lust after. You can use your Boyds as your somewhat aero wheelset for now and sell them next year to help offset your dep wheel purchase.

I'd like the Vitesse more if you could de-brand 'em.

Bianchi, hopefully nobody will "call you out", I think you're going down exactly the right path, besides if you like it, the looks the feel you'll ride it more often. I think some of the challenge will be to meet your criteria with weight and price along with looks. Even if you went with a 38-42mm carbon to get the looks you're after pricing with mid-range hubs will be around 1k for about 1400g. I know there are other lighter ones from ebay but I still don't trust that particular market with wheels and would rather go the Boyd, November, Sugar route which will probably go a little over the 1k mark and still be a tad heavier.

I only have about 100 miles on my new wheels, but I think they are a good mix of looks and weight. I also think the 38mm profile makes the wheel stiffer than my previous Dura Ace 7850's and certainly feel better. I'm looking forward to seeing your next demo!

unfortunately, thats not going to be an option for me. not because I dont want it to be, but because it just wont be obtainable. ALL of my money for cycling comes from what I get for my bday (If I still get anything these days...pushing 32 this year lol), xmas or what I can sell. and when I say ALL, I mean everything, like tubes, tires, bibs shorts, socks...everything. NOTHING, NOT .01 comes out of our paychecks/budget. Its because our means of income go toward more important things for our family...house, car...the nccassary items. Its the sacrifice we made and understood when we had our 2 kids and bought our 2nd house (sold the first and bought current, not own 2 homes at once). I have been able to sell a lot of bike stuff I had laying around over the past 3 months which helped a lot getting my bike the way it is now. I currently have $650 saved up and I am essentially out of things to sell off. Its going to take some time I think to build up enough of a budget just to purchase a wheelset from jude. Its difficult for me to have cash and not spend it, so saving up isn't easy. I was initially saving up for an evo frameset, but after my spoke broke, wheels became an important forethought.

This is why it will be so important for me to test as many wheels as she will allow me to in order to make the best decision that will be as close to an all around wheel as possible. The way I look at it is, there is nothing wrong with my boyds now. they are fixed and will last me a while longer, so I'm not in any NEED. Once I save up enough, I can either sell my boyds or keep them for a possible backup.

I was seriously thinking about going with a set from farsports. 38mm carbons with novatech or ceramic edhubs with cx sapim spokes that weigh 1250 grams for $600 was very inviting. They get pretty good reviews among people who own them, but I just i just cant bring myself to trust their quality. going 55mph down a hill with a wheel you dont FULLY trust can be dangerous. Besides, I'm on a new path now and looking towards a strong quality build.

Lol, ok......I got my second set of wheels this morning and I don't know what to think. My feeling of caring about aesthetics are being tested to my limits here!!!! When I walked in and saw a set of wheels leaning against her bench I prayed they were for me. Sure as crap they were. I'm gonna have a VERY difficult time getting past what the wheels look like and focus on how they feel. She said these just happened to be her demo wheels, its not like she built them up just for me with this color.

I'm going to go on record as saying that Velocity has the absolute cheesiest wheel labels on the market but their gamut of color selection is second to none.
