so my shepherd pie was with a guy from Chicago and he said something that surprised me. He said that he could see Chicago going the way of Detroit. Knowing nothing about middle America, i wonder if he is being alarmist?

He moved to Oklahoma city.

I saw that movie after I had left a long stint selling high end cars, and it was chilling. Anyone who has ever been straight commission knows what it is to be under pressure to produce. It's flying without a net, and the dark side to that is something most people who are on straight salary will never experience. That David Mamet play and subsequent movie (Glengarry Glenross) really nails it. It's 20 years old now (the film) still very powerful. If you haven't seen it, it's worth finding it to watch.

Cliches are based on truth. The pressure of commission only employment makes no sense to me. If you have to bear all the risk, why not run your own business? That's the same risk without an ahole on your back, leeching from your efforts.

Interestingly, there are some Americans in this thread with the same problem.

Chicago has a long history of corrupt government, but he's being alarmist. Detroit sank because industry tanked. Chicago is huge, (it is the third largest city in the US in terms of population) and varied enough that one type of employer doing poorly doesn't affect the overall health of the city. They haven't put all their eggs in one basket.

He reminded me of ruokie. He said a lot of okies are from other places. Something ruokie said here. My new friend is a runner...even dumber than cyclists.

That is true. Especially in Tulsa and OKC. OKC is one of the fastest growing cities in the USA. Very strong economy primarily because of the Energy industry. Lots of natural gas and oil, as well as wind.

The only problem is when the wheat doesn't wave. That pisses me off. I always wave.

My hangover is underwhelming. The plan was to drink, get drunk, sleep, wake with a hangover, stay in bed nursing said hangover for most of the day. Fail of epic proportion. I didnt even remember drinking until I was at the grocery store wondering why I was so damn grouchy. So now I am up, in a pissy mood and still cant get my cycling shoe on this damn foot.

Curiously I've been looking for a solution to my mup problem. I might get the 2 sided shimano moutain bike pedals which also means I need to get mountain bike shoes. Any excuse to buy more crap. My reflux is improving so much that it won't be long before I go back to riding with decent amount of climbing, so platforms must go...and stay...and go...and stay...

Well, some quality time with a file set, hacksaw, and utility knife have resulted in an installed front fender. Unfortunately, that was the one with more room. Would a rack with a solid top function as a fender? Inquiring minds would like to know.

And on the pie front, pecan is a rarity here. Apple, berry (straw or blue or rasp), pumpkin, and the cream pies are most readily available. And cheesecake. Oh my God is there cheesecake.

pecan pie. i love it.

RUOkie 03-03-13 01:39 PM

I do not believe in putting anything in my pecan pie other than sugar, Karo, eggs, butter, vanilla and pecans. Substituting Bourbon for vanilla extract is acceptable. Adding Chocolate or any fruit like substance is not. It should be eaten with a scoop of good quality vanilla ice cream OR with homemade whipped cream.

Pecan pie is sent from the gods.

RollCNY 03-03-13 01:40 PM

If your frame has two rear eyelets, is the upper one rack and lower fender? Is there a conventional convention, an unconventional convention, or no effing pattern? I would again say the inquiring minds thing, but I think the question mark conveys all.

I figured if I can walk on it I wold be ok as long as the cycling shoe supported the bone in such a way that it didnt cause pain. it was uncomfortable enough that I decided it wasnt a good idea....yet.
