Is that what you had on the pool? If so, sorry, you lost. :o

I slept about 2 hours last night. This is going to be an awesome day. Luckily I only have to work 8 hours today. After that I have to go with Mom to the hospital so she can have her knee replaced.

I'm happy to help her but honestly, we have had enough of hospitals lately. :o

I'm going to need a new frame, too. What's the real sizing on the Nashbar aluminum frames? They seem to be giving real top tube instead of effective.

They list effective TT, which looks crazy short. However, they have a 74° STA. Once you get your seat setback dialed in, they are not too atypical. The seat tube measurement is not to the top tube, it is to the end of the seat tube, which is kind of useless.

Hey gang, I'm back from a week of leave.

Started with the Toronto Bike Show:

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=303710

The 2013 paint jobs look great in person.

Then a week of "try and finish house reno prior to putting house up for sale".

So new bath plumbing:

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=303709

And my first ever tile job:

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=303711

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=303708

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=303712

I'm exhausted. The tile took far longer than expected.

Nice job on the tiling. I am a huge fan of the DIY channel, but was wondering - it seems like every last host on the channel is Canadian. What's up with that, eh? :D

Over the winter, I've developed some pretty good ideas for the front and back yard from all the crashing that goes on on DIY.

I like how they very deliberately never mention what city they're in, as if that would somehow alienate the tv markets outside of Canada (mostly the US, I would guess), yet most hosts have a pronounced accent.

RT 03-11-13 06:48 AM

I have also noticed this. Yesterday's kitchen rescue involved a lot of grout work. You can't do grout work without revealing your inner-Canadian.

coasting 03-11-13 06:54 AM

grout is so tedious.

TampaRaleigh 03-11-13 06:54 AM

I survived Hunaphu's Day.

RollCNY 03-11-13 06:55 AM

Don't know if it is still true, but TV production costs used to be much much lower in Canada than the US. It is why many films use Toronto as a stand in for NYC. I would also wager that US folks would expect to be paid to be on "reality TV", where that may not be the prevalent thought in the Great White North.

So on this guy: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...02_-1___202389

I currently ride an S1 in size 56. Effective top tube of 565, stack of 560, reach of 394. I'm used to primarily considering ETT in sizing, which would push me to a 60 in the Nashbar. Are you saying I should try a 56, with an ETT of 545, and just use more setback on the seatpost? I mean, at $99, it's not a huge gamble to just get it and try, but that goes against the main sizing metric I've been told to use. I figured the ETT would be longer than the actual top tube, and that's why I thought this was actual.

Also, from what I understand 72.5* head tube angle will make the steering a bit more sluggish than the 73* I have now - how much so?

The 72.5 HTA just means that you want a longer rake fork, like a 45mm. I have had a build with 43mm, and the handling was nice and crisp (by my standards). Current build has a 40mm, which is a trail of something like 63mm. It may be less responsive than the 43mm fork, but not enough to make it unpleasant.

Personally, do not go with a 60 based on TT. My effective TT goal is 585, and I have been able to make both 58's and 60's work fine, with 25mm setback posts and the saddle slid back (further on the 58, essentially centered on the 60).

RecceDG 03-11-13 07:33 AM

Grout may be tedious, but placing ~600 tiles will sure give it a run for the money.

I wanted to do something that came on a 12" square sheet, but SWMBO and budget said otherwise. So it was individually set tiles the whole way.

Nah. The morning commute is in darkness anyway. It's nice that evening is light. Easier for intervals.

Thanks. So, you're in the center of a setback seatpost on an ETT that's 20mm under your target ETT. That would imply, given my target of 565 ETT, taking the size 56 would be perfect with its ETT of 545. That's reassuring, thanks! Then I'll be a member of the n+1 club, finally, and have a beater to ride to the pool now that it's DST and will be light/ warm enough afterwards.

If the seat tube angle is the same on both frames the saddle set back should not need to be changed (assuming you have the saddle at the same height).

I agree, but there does seem to be a slight difference. Granted, the seatpost was not common to both builds, so it may just be a visual thing based on slightly different post set backs, or the angles may not be exact. I generally set up around KOPS, so they should remain fairly consistent.

I'll be back in shape before you all know it. I'm getting there, fatso that I am.
