Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Darrington to Rockport and the North Cascades (pics)

We had some gorgeous weather, so I did a ride from the Mountain Loop to the North Cascades "highways." Saw lots of blue sky, lots of wild and scenic rivers, and of course lots of snow-capped mountains. I can't really think of a better way to have spent the day.

This is a ride I've been wanting to do for a couple years, and its time finally came.

Very nice. I love living in Washington. Such a beautiful state.......... Wait, no, I mean, it sucks here. It rains all the time. You don't want to move here.

That is a great area up there. Spent a lot of my childhood summers up there camping and hiking. Floating down the river on inner tubes. I do not know if there is still alot of logging trucks on them roads but probably less scary than in the city. Great pics by the way.

No logging trucks, but a big mill outside Darrington. There was surprisingly little traffic, I might have seen 15 or 20 cars all day.

It was a lot of fun.

Was not sure its been some time since I have been up in that area, now that I think of it about 15 years anyway. Time flies by anymore. Think I may have to go do a ride up there soon.
