i am in oakleigh east and we had 40mm on the rain guage between 7:30am and 6pm. pretty wet!
i rode in at 6:30 to city via gardiners ck and scotchmans. not a soul. great ride. all showers free at work and plenty of hot water.

coming home, there was about 800mm of water over the track under glenferrie rd (went over the top).
and about 300mm over track at toorak rd - went over again.

about 6 riders already at the lights to pick up the track again.
this crazy little guy hanging onto his aero bars comes out of the underpass (about 40m through 300mm of fast flowing water) and jumps on the back wheel of the guy in front of me (about 30m ahead). being an MTB, it wasn't like he was in a rain shadow! fair bit of water coming off the back of his draught.

it must have been all of 10 degrees, and then there are these kids on body boards surfing down gardiners ck. in board shorts and t shirts.

i thought i'd seen it all. then i see these 2 guys kitted up in kayaks doing some training around bridge pylons and stuff.

i dont think the rain is going to stop.

How was the track tonite climbo? I'm guessin cold, wet, and bloody windy :D

Geez, I did that ride a gazillion times a few years ago when i was going into the city, so I might've seen ya.

It can occasionally turn into quite a race, can't it? :p What about the "starting grid" at Flinders St and St Kilda Rd.? Funny stuff!

You "hot-landers" will love to hear that we had our coldest Feb day on record: 13.2 deg

i get on at exhibition street so i miss this, but there are still a few that line up. they go real quick down that hill, but tend to come back to you when they turn into the head wind.

i was down on a building site at 1pm.
there was not a lot of activity. wet, windy and facken freezing. had to go back to the orrifice and stand under the hand dryer to dry off and warm up. just truly miserable.
but i wouldn't miss my ride home for anything.
no doubt - the best thing about work at the moment is the ride home.

Yeah, it can sometimes be really satisfying when you feel like you've taken on Mother Nature, and beaten her :p

I was commuting to RMIT in '99 and 2000, so doing the 18 to 21km (I varied my route) was a piece of
piss. However, I switched to La Trobe in 2001, which meant a 28 to 30km commute, and that extra 20 or 30 mins in shit weather has really got to me.
I went from being an "anything goes", tough commuter, with 3 different commuter bikes, back to being a "Beach Rd only" boy on my $4000 Cervelo. :( :p But I still ride to the ATM

last night was insane - i am checking the neighbour's yards for roof tiles...
that last bit isn't true, but that was a shocker last night

no way i would take my gios into that on _that_ track. she's too sweet for that.
i take my Dr. Dew, which does the business.

I went by, it was full of water on the inside, a few people waited until 7pm and did some training. You get the hail? We had some HUGE ones, almost the size of a tennis ball. A friends white Honda Civic now looks like a golf ball after being pelted.

13.2 in Melb, that sucks, up here it was 15 this morning when I got up. What's Melb going to be like in April when I get down there, single digits?

I was out in the whole storm, driving from Gosford station to Ourimbah, but not one hailstone. Most of it was West Gosford, a bit at East Gosford, plenty at Green Point and some along Avoca Drive: all golfball to baseball size! One guy at work go hit twice on the way home, had no power when he got there, and his roof was leaking! He now goes by the name of Lucky :D

2 hour drive to work this morning.

Last month I flew to QLD for work, got home to a golfball shaped car, no power as my house was hit by lightning and a leaky roof.

Now I'm in singapore & my freshly repaired car is sitting in long term parking at sydney.... I'm not looking forward to getting home :mad:

Nup....you take the test for your L-permit, then have to wait at least 3 months to go for your full licence (Ps)....from there, you're restricted to 259cc for 12 months. So the absolute minimum period on a 250 is 15 months.

The 150hp/tonne rule is much better.

Damn, what a night. First up was the car alarm at 1am that kept being triggered by the wind. Then more rain and wind, followed by the sound of cracking trees at 4am. A Eucalypt missed our car by about 6ft. At 5am the SES arrived to start chainsawing the fallen trees. I got 4 hours sleep ( before saying at 7am "Screw it, I'm sleeping in" ) and now I have a raging headache with no pills and to top it off, we're out of coffee.

I thought the wind was going to cave in my garage door. Next door has one of those new, horizontal trees in their front yard.

It seems it's contagious. I went to bed late only to get up feeling bloody ordinary. But I had a ride to do, so I whacked on the HRM and mused at it being 10bpm too high. Then I remembered that it was garbage night, so out into the chill air to put the bin out. Even my morning weigh in was high by about a kilo. WTF? I was half way through getting dressed for the ride when I noticed that it was only 1:30am!!!!! Back to bed only to sleep through the alarm. Looks like a session on the windtrainer tonite for me. Oh joy :cry:

A MOTORBIKE!!!???? :eek:

I saw a motorbike smash into the back of a car on Friday in Moorabbin. He took off from the lights popping a mono, and was flying by the time he hit. Smashed up the whole front of his bike.
He didn't look too bad, but seemed to be going into some kind of shock, and said at one stage he couldn't feel his legs!! Scared the shit out of me.


I hate to be a wowzer, and I'm usually reluctanct to state the obvious, but imagine all the bad things that can happen to ya when you're on a pushy, but at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or even 10 times the speed :p

I figure it this way.....there's plenty of times I've been at 60, 70 80kmh plus on a pushy wearing 1 layer of fabric on roughly 2/3rds of my body and a large styrofoam cup on my head and not batted an eyelid about the potential risk.

A dainese jacket, Shoei helmet and some decent boots make me feel a whole lot safer........oh yeah, I won't be pulling wheelies away from any traffic lights.

You wouldn't ride in the rain, would ya? I reckon that would change everything, but unlike pushies, a motorbiking mate of mine reckons the tyres actually work in the wet.

Sadly most of my workday training is done in the dark, and all too often this summer the rain hasn't started until after I have!! Wierd weather. Suffice to say I've done a fair amount of riding in the wet and dark. Has its moments. Falls: 1, Collisions:0, Near misses: 1, Anxious moments: at least one per ride.
