Give us your race review; I'll read it tomorrow at 3am. If you don't go, just make it up :) All this race talk is inspiring me. |
Hey guys! What's up? Weather too cold and wet for you? It's almost 10.30 and no posts yet.

tour of the Midlands review? Fingers thawed out yet?? |
......is that before or after I get Wattsy's doona & balaclava off? So Hitchy, did you ride on Saturday? As I got on the bike on Sunday I chuckled to myself about how cold/wet it was the day before. By Frankston, I was b1tching and moaning about the cold/wet conditions. After the ride yesterday I hosed and wiped the Trek down. I undid the cable guide screw under the bottom bracket and I swear that a third of a cup of water came out of the frame...Does anyone else find they get that much water after a ride in the wet? |

I've got a solution....when the rain drops, the bicycle stops.
he he he!!! |
There was a thread or two on this in the past fortnight. Apparently Trek have a solution -- a cable-guide bolt with a hole drilled down the middle of it. Check your dealer. Apparently, in the US, Trek supply it free. Check the thread(s). I've got a solution....when the rain drops, the bicycle stops. |

Gidday fellas, hope you're not suffering too badly from Mondayitis like I am.
Weather report Melbourne - Once again, can't make up it's damn mind. 16 and sunny one minute, 9 and raining the next. My preparation of the 'Round The Bay in a Day ride isn't going too well, so I'm contemplating a jaunt down to Franger this arvo after the lunchtime noodles have time to digest. Anyone gunna be out on the road this afternoon? Wave to the big guy on the orange bike. |
I should be out there........eventually.

Fingers thawed out yet?? g'day all, remind me never, ever, ever to think about doing the 'tour of the Midlands' again.....fark it was cold!...shoulda been tipped off when we arrived at the start at ballan & the outside temp on the cars guage was 4 deg....nope, that's to subtle a hint for Hitchy....what about when the copper doing the race briefing says he has just spoken to his collegue at Trentham & "conditions are deteriorating".....hitchy take the hint?....nahuh!....the constant drizzle?...the fact that we couldn't see the top of Mt. blackwood for the black cloud perched there....nah...to subtle hints for this little black duck!.......so Hitchy sets off in the 'C' grade bunch.......the boys keep the pace up early, probably to keep warm....I've got 4 layers on, so I'm warm even though I'm wet. 10km....pace is on, boys swapping turns, have shelled a few...fark it's gunna be miserable getting dropped today!....20km..been raining since the start, absolutely saturated, aalthough still warm...pace is high...can't see anything up front but the tail lights of the lead car....30km....joy of joys...it's now 'persistantly' coming down...it must be cold, every breath is steam coming out & fogging my glasses...not that i can see anything anyway...road is getting slippery & dodging the 'deeper' water is becoming a priority...pace still well up, we started with 30 in C grade, probably lost half already.....40km...tink, tink, tink fark...thats hail bouncing off my lid...its getting thru the vents in the limar...geez it hurts...I'm gunna end up with concussion...tink, tink ,tink, staying upright is a priority now...we lost one at the last turn, front wheel 'washed out'...hope he's ok...at best the 6-13 will need some 'panel beating'.....tink, tink, tink....PPPSSSHHHTTTT...fark, some poor bastard has punctured...double crap...... IT'S ME!......No bloody spares vehicle either...have to change it from scratch....g'bye bunch, maybe I can get this done in time to grab 'B' grade?....Ok don't panic...get under the trees to do this..its still hailing!...Ok wheres me tube, CO2...got the gloves off...fark it's cold now I've stopped....fingers in me mouth to keep them warm....can't get the tyre back on...can't feel the fingers...fark, fark, fark...don't panic....fark, there goes 'B' grade...geez it'll be hard trying to sit with 'A' grade......OK CO2 in the tyre......hey...it's stopped hailing.......yep....its actually snowing now!...wheel back in...get in you bastard...crap everywhere...is that really the 486 under this mud?....fark...there goes 'A' grade....well every bunch has shelled a few...I'll form up with the sragglers & finish anyway.....ok start riding...can't stop shivering...'A' grade disappearing over the climb...no chance of catching them...what does this guy in the car beside me want...ahh he' the sag wagon...."dya want a lift mate"?...."nah i'll be right pal, I'll stick with the stragglers behind"....says hitchy, "mate, you're it...all the others have turned back or got picked up".......Oh says Hitchy from chattering teeth, realising he's last on the road, 110km to go by himself, in the rain, hail & deepening snow...."maybe I will have that lift mate, thanks"!......Hitchy DNF |
Another glowing endorsement of our sport for those thinking of taking it up.
