Don't think I've played at Hastings before. All the towns down that way have
a strange mix of Franga bogan types, and the super-hip Mt Eliza surfy types.

WTF? Never heard of them. Hang on while I fire up google. Fark me there's some crazy **** associated with that name. As for the bike site. Don't look to bad at all. All Aluminium though aren't they? Remember the motto, "He with the most carbon wins!". If that was the case I'd be losing on those things. But I'm not sure if "Hitchy's First Law" is the be all and end all, so I'll keep an open mind. Anyone know what they're like? Bit hard to find retailers selling them?


Okay, now in to the land of the truly sureal. Was showing the little lady the Orbea Vento in Ride today. Left the magazine with her for a second and she had a flick. A couple of seconds later she came upon the Onix C. "Ooo, get that one!" She says. I point out to her where it says 4.8k, and explain that that means $4800.00. She says she doesn't care and that I should buy it (got to be the C as she likes the look of the Campy Vento wheels better). I'm like gobsmacked. Letting me spend that much money on myself?!?!? So anyway, I get to thinking. You dudes know anything about them? If it was up to you guys would you get that, or one of last years Specialized Roubaix Comps with crappy Shimano 540 wheels for $4000?

An Orbea carbon frame to compete with the Giant TCR? That's got to be dodgy doesn't it?

Went and checked out the Learsport today and really liked it. The only problem is that the Trek is made in a 63cm frame and the Learsport is a 60cm. I'm about 198cm tall. The Learsport was comfortable but i need to raise the handlebar height.

There's a Learsport factory direct retailer in Canberra and they sell it for $1100, but the guy said he will price match and beat it by 10%. Dean Woods has it for $1050, so that would be $950 which is an awesome price for that bike. I'll pick it up on Wednesday when i get paid lots of moula. Now i just have to find somewhere cheap to buy all the gismos, ie. computer, pump, saddle-bag etc.

If you're tall, you've really gotta watch out for short head-tubes and cut off fork steerers
because these can severely limit how high you can move the bars.

So even De Rosa has bad hair days... You guys seen the De Rosa 'Tango? What a mess.

I rode the Orca in my 'search for the holy grail'. I liked it, certainly light, a bit 'aggressive' or twitchy in the front end, felt more 'softer' than the 486. I rated it highly, but behind the standouts, 486, VRXS & C50....but higher than the Scott CR1,Madone, 6-13 & miles ahead of the rubbish frames. I like the look of the Onix I saw at the show. The guy told me it was a taiwanese frame, made to Orbea specs & priced to get some of the TCR's market share....I reckon it will do well. I might just have to get me a ride on one o' these. If saccy's missus has said yes, he'd better move quick, cos if she's like most woman, she'll have changed her mind by the end of next week....either that or she's after something for herself that costs a bob ....beware saccy....this bike is gunna cost you heaps in brownie points!

And what you got against a TCR?

....'Ride' has some piccys of it in a report on some trade show in Milan.....without a shadow of a doubt
the ugliest frame I've ever seen. What do I have against the TCR?....you ever ridden one?...ride a TCR, then go & ridea carbon frame from Look, Colnago or Time.....or many others, then make up your own mind. I don't have anything against the TCR, except that people are riding them, (cos they are so cheap) & judging all carbon frames by that experience. I gotta tell ya, If the only carbon bike I'd ever ridden was the TCR, I'd never have bothered riding another one....I'm sick & tired of people sprouting opinions of carbon frames based on one ride of a TCR. The equipment levels are quite good & real value for money, but the frame is yech!. I say to people, that if you add up the price of all the individual components that a TCR comes with, & that price, excluding the frame, is more than you're paying...then do it, cos you're getting the frame for nothing...which is about what i reckon it's worth!

i had a similar experience with aluminium. I had an Evolution hunk of junk with an aluminium fork.
Put me off for a couple of alu years. I only bought another one (1999 Specialized Allez Comp)
because it was just $100 (2nd hand -- frame only), and I wanted something to ride in the rain.
It was so much different to the Evolution, I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe how
nice that cheap Specialized rode.

So, it seems carbon and aluminium can vary greatly.
