So, it seems I'm all talk: I just did the Fitzroy Cycles ride.....again!
I thought the threat of rain would keep the numbers down to around twenty, but there was still 35 or 40. One guy I speak to occasionally estimates that a big night has about 90 to 100 guys out there. I spent half the time "stomping", off the seat (or "out of the saddle", as the Septics say) whilst trying to keep my back wheel on the ground. I think if I don't grab the drops so far forward and try to stay just that tiny bit further back I can prevent the dreaded skip. .........Just got some old, non-ergo, shallow drop, 42cm (c-c) ITM Pro 2 bars from Bicycle Recycle for 30 bucks!! Woo Hoo!! |
yahoo....just got a call from the LBS...he's mangaged to track down an Arione saddle for me in white with the world championship stripes on it. I've already got one, but wanted another for the training bike. Turns out the 'colour scheme' was a limited addition & no longer available. Other than Saeco red, there wasn't another colour that was gunna look 'super' on the treadly....:(.....turns out some Netti rep in Outback Queensland had one lying under the car seat he'd forgotten about...yaaahh...& now its mine.....I love my LBS (tim @ pedallers west - Sunbury)....so who wants to buy 2 Aspides...going cheap!

geez Ed...you know more about it than me! & i own 2 o' them now....remind me not to get in an arguement with you about bike bits! Hitchy |
I'm a sad case.

I'm gunna ask my wood-duck question again:
On these w@anker group rides, when a few of these guys catch you after you've been off the front for a few minutes, why to do they take my fukn "nose" off, and nearly put me into the gutter? Last night I started stickin' me fat elbows out and flexin' my fat tris to try and scare the little sh1ts off. :D |

I've been out of the gym scene for ages, but I wonder what 30 or 40 reps is gunna do for you that you couldn't achieve on the bike. I thought cyclists worked mostly on strength, and only really in the "off" season. I've read some of the weight training threads (not thouroughly), and I really don't how some of these guys can do leg weights during a racing season. Maybe it's because they're 21, and not thirty-_____.......well, my age |

I wish!....quite a few of my mates have & they all say the same thing....ya gotta do it!...most amazing cycling experience of their lives......ya mighta noticed them this year at the alpe 'dhez time trial.....they were about 200 mts from the finish waving this 6ft tall inflatable boxing kangaroo around....one of them was on the phone to one of my other mates, while he was watching it on TV...he could see them!.....they even got a wave from most of the Aussies as they went past. My sponsor, The Adventure Travel company (http://www.tourdefrance.com.au/default.asp) is involved in organised trips to cycling events around the world. I'm hoping to be able to do something in the next year or so with them, (probably as an on bike tour leader)....Phil Anderson is involved, great people to deal with...give them a call if you're interested cheers, hitchy |

I've never left Australia either. I've been thinking if I save my pennies real hard then just maybe I could get there. I think it would be great to see Armstrong, Ulrich, Virenque, McEwen, O'Grady and the rest before they all retire.

Maybe it's because they're 21, and not thirty-_____.......well, my age For trained endurance cyclists (read road and track events longer than about 90 seconds) a gym routine is of limited benefit. The hypertrophy of muscle groups is a distinct disadvantage in terms of power:weight ratio. For track sprinters, gym is crucial, eg. Florian Rousseau could squat 305kg for reps. Where a lot of people get confused is that they do comparitively little traninng of any sort....~100km a week, 1 or 2 gym sessions and say "Wow!! Doing weights has really helped my cycling!!" When actually any type of exercise is doing them good. |
Hey Ed, I know these are big questions, but why would Hitchy's
coach have him doin' 30 or 40 reps at the gym? |

I used to to a bit of pissweak gym stuff too (the numbers I used to lift never fail to make me laugh) it was good fun and a top perve for a young bloke!! But in a perfect world, a 90 minute strength effort session on the hills around Warrandyte > 90 minutes of gym work. |

And I thought I was the only person in the world with a Bennet!! :D Mine is a very cheap, Tange 3 or 4,or something, that had (when I bought it) mostly Exage on it and Sugino cranks. I use it as my milk-bar bike. It actually rides pretty good; I rode it to uni every day for 2 years, a while back. |
