Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jeez, you mean you missed my post in reply to 53-11 about me riding up hills behind a
"pickup" truck with a Spitfire Engine blowing in my face to create enough resistance?
Some of my best work

They reckon they do random checks when people seem to resemble each other....or whatever.

Apparently there's something called an "IP address" ("internet protocol address") which can tell
clever computer people that emails, etc, are coming from a particular PC or netwrok. So, I gather
the clever forum people can tell when two users are from the same location, if they bother to look.

Either that, or they were bluffing, and I caved

Have you got the "instant email notification" option selected in your "edit options" in
your user control panel?

It's funny; sometimes you get to see harsh replies on threads (in your email box),
that then must be quickly deleted because when you go back to the forum, the message has
often gone.

Yeah looks like great value. But it's a Giant that looks like **** and you'll bag me. Krysium. Dura-Ace. I can't see anything to much to balance the ledger in that package.

Hrm, and it's getting sold from Melbourne. Hitchy, don't tell me you ran over some poor pitiful Giant rider and nicked his smashed bike only to fix it up wiht electrical tape and sell it to dumb suckers like me.

Is there really enough carbon on that Lemond Hitchy?

just trying to help...actually theres nothing wrong with hyundai's provided you're not paying for the frame...lets see DA 10 say $1800, cheapo Kysiriums (elites or something aren't they?) about $700...there's $2500 so you get the frame for nix...which is what its worth! i reckon that Lemond looks like awesome value....the other plus is that in Oz every 2nd bloke won't be riding one like Treks & hyundai's. So when can they deliver. Currently theres all sorts of horror stories on Ultegra 10 delivery dates

Nah, I appreciate it. Just being funny. My biggest problem there is that I get intruiged by the horror stories from ebay and have as a consequence, freaked myself out. Should give it a go. Thought I'm not sure about my first experience of it being buying a rack displaying quality components.

As for Ultegra 10, if you believe what the local dude here tells you, they're selling the stuff already, and he saw boxes full of the stuff on the weekend. Even with my limited knowledge, I've caught him out ********ting on a couple of things already, so I don't take his word as gospel. I'm thinking the reason why so many of the bikes I'm interested in around that bracket have delivery dates of next year is because Ultegra 10 is holding them up.

I'm finding it crazy though. So many bikes aorund the 3k have deleivery dates of next year, so what's a sucker like me got to do. Spend more? Not going to happen. Only option is Capag, or Ultegra 9, which doesn't seem so common. Most seem to have moved to 10, and seem to be happy to not deliver bikes in that bracket for a while. Else for expample in Lemond, the Alpe D'Huez is the same frame with the same wheelset as the Trek 2000, and 105, ultegra 9 components. For a saving of $500 or so, that could be an option if worst comes to worst.

And yeah, like I've said before. If I can buy a good bike that I don't find many people riding. Then that = badsac.

Bikes: Pinarello Sestriere (steel) with Veloce 10 speed & Campagnolo Shamal Ultra wheelset, De Rosa Vision (Alu) with Chorus 11 and Campagnolo Bora One 50 wheelset Bianchi 1885 with Centaur groupset and Zonda wheelset 2003 GT Avalanche 0.0 MTB

I was looking for ages for a bike....started out looking at the Trek 1400 and then went to the Trek 1500 and also saw a Bianchi ML3 with Veloce 10speed.....but then I happend to walk into a shop and found a Steel Pinarello with Veloce 9 speed and Campag Proton wheelset. I have not looked back. If you think the 10speed will make heaps of difference then wait. I would rather save the $'s........buy the way I dont see too many Pinarello's on the Road either!!

At this stage I honestly couldn't give a stuff about 10 speed. 7 speed has done my sweet for the last 13 years so I'm not complaining. It's just that everything in my price bracket seems to be 10 speed this year. I'd also be interested in quality second hand, but it's hard out here when the only second hand you see would best be turned into a plough.

Yeah. Most of the time, cities give me the irrates. But dang, how I'd love to get living in Melbourne just so I could be in reach of some decent stores. Oh well. Money's only money and a bikes a bike. As long as it gets me riding more, it's done it's job.

Mine is yet to arrive. I keep coming home at lunch to check the mailbox for it. I've even fitted some 90mm PVC pipe to the side of the mailbox so the postie wont fold it up like last time. Tomorrow has to be the day.

Sigh. Sucks. Okay. Here's me options.

2005 Cannondale R900 - $3200 - available 2 to 3 weeks.
2005 Giant TCR2 - $3500 - available January
2005 Trek 2000 - $3150 - available December (Trek Australia is to gay to have this on it's website)
2005 Lemond Chambery - $2850 - perhaps December, probably January, nobody actually knows.
2004.5 Felt F50 - $2650 - Ride away tomorrow. (Can't find info for 2004.5 models)

Why's it so bloody hard to buy a friggin bike? Should get a Trek 1000 and be done with it.

Bikes: Trek 5200 and 8000

Hey Hitchy, I'm starting to see a few 486's on Beach Road. Looks like the publicity from you riding one on the 'Warnie' has paid off for LOOK.

I tried to get the wife to give me financial approval to purchase a C50 frame while in Noosa. She thought it looked great and was happy till the sales person told her it was worth $7.5K. Bugger!

BTW, it looks like I'm gunna have lot's of time to ride as I quit my contract just before I went on Holidays. Don't know what I'm gunna do, but I'm fed up with IT and Project Management. Maybe I can open a bike shop?? Looking for some suggestions fellas...

What about these options.....
Avanti Corsa
Bianchi ML3 with Veloce 10 speed
Cervelo Dual
Diamond Back Podium Pro
Merida 907 Magnesium
Raceline Ultra Comp
Scott Team
Specialized Allez Comp
I think they are all around the $3k mark

I'm in the same boat, I'm looking at spending around the $3000 mark. The bike I have at the moment is too big and I want a new bike right now. And unless I go with an Avanti or a Giant, I have to wait until I have time to get up to Perth for a few days and have a look.

Even in Perth the bike shops arent that great, last year at Fleet Cycles I was getting fitted for the Giant TCR alloy and this prick wouldnt even allow me to take it for a ride. The best he could do was set it up on a trainer, like I'm gonna drop $2,500 on a bike after spinning the wheel on a trainer. He said it was because people had been stealing them. And the guy at Glen Parker Cycles was only interested in getting me on some dodgy lookin 'Cytek' bike.

I wanted something with Ultegra 10 speed, but January is long way away...

I'm told Avanti's aren't available until next year. You can really get them over there Scoz?

Don't like the look of the Specialized.

Are those Merida's really magnesium (Ah. Quick google shows new ones as carbon)? Are they any good? Google also says shop in Brookvale is the only one selling them in NSW. Guess I could have a look. Look tasty enough.

Raceline? Nup.

An Aluminium Bianchi? Baby jebus weeps! I thought they were all supposed to be steel?

Cervelo Dual? I'd be like a 531Aussie groupy then.

Diamond Back Podium Pro? I thought they only make offroadies? They must be embarrased about their roadies though as I couldn';t find them on their site (bugger downloading the catalog). The one picture I found of it had a bell on it. WTF?

Scott Team? Is that the AFD Team? Doesn't look to bad actually. All Aluminium again though. If I'm going to bust my ass I might as well do it on a locally sourced Cannondale and get good support for it shouldn't I?

Nah, a few of them would be nice. Thanks heaps for that list SJP! But it's just so much travelling to find a shop that google says might retail them, only to find they don't have any in stock to look at. Might as well have another look about while nobody can get me a bike though.

I think I've said this before, but Cheeky Monkey had some 2004 steel Cervelos with
Ultegra (mostly), on special for about $2900.

I wouldn't get the Felt; I reckon they're in the same category as Avantis, Meridas, Norcos, etc.

I may have also said this before, and 'Thylo' keeps kicking my @ss for doing so, but
the Cannondales perform outstandingly on the 'infamous' EFBe fatigue test
done by a German engineering company of the same name ("EFBe").

https://www.efbe.de/defbefrm.htm Click on "English version" (obviously), then
"Road frames New 11/2004", and scroll down to see plenty of Cannondales on the list.
They have a reputation of being a strong frame (that's Beach Road talk ). I reckon the Cannondale
looks the best, and they are no where near as ubiquitous as the Treks. I also reckon
LeMonds will become more common in the next couple of years because all the Trek dealers
have stocked up this year on all the cheap LeMond models.

I may have also said THIS before: have you checked out "road bike review"?
https://www.roadbikereview.com/defaultcrx.aspx

It's really much of a "muchness", excluding the Felt .

Tell me again why they have no 2004 bikes there?

No word on the Orbea?

You're absolutely gunna get one from the local shop?
