Cheeky Monkey were also offloading other 2004 Cervelos
http://www.cheekymonkey.com.au/mulhome.htm Scroll down at this Cheeky Monkey address to the Cervelo specials I know I'm a bit of Cervelo fan, but $3000 is awesome for an Ultegra Soloist, especially if they come with the Velomax wheels. They've had the specials up for a couple of months, so I dunno if it's up to date. http://www.cervelo.com/images/2004/2004-SLT-full.jpg |

Euro trash! |
[QUOTE=badsac]I'm told Avanti's aren't available until next year. You can really get them over there Scoz?
No, no new one's here until January either. Avanti and Giant are just what is available at my LBS's. |

I wanted something with Ultegra 10 speed, but January is long way away... Both the Cytek Massimos (Ultegra model and the Dura-Ace model) are Columbus Airplane alooominum, which is one of their better tube-sets |
531Aussie: So Merida's are dodge then? Scrap that.
"Tell me again why they have no 2004 bikes there?" Sorry? Bah, I was going to go to Cheeky monkey before my ill fated central coast run, so I guess I should check them out before I'm done. I really would like to just bludy buy something local and forget about the travelling though. |

Meridas haven't been producing high end biukes for very long, so, to me, they're still kinda like Diamondback and Raceline road bikes. |

And I just dont like the the quality of the Cyteks, but at those prices they probably arent a bad buy. |

I hate to rub it in, but I've got about 9 or 10 bike shops in a 10km radius.
I also prefer to stay local. When I bought the Cervelo I had to go about 25km to Croydon..AAAAAgh/..in my CAR for fukks sake :) The guy said something about popping back for some follow-up crap, and I said: "forget it -- I ain't coming all the way out here again. I don't mind riding that far, but driving??!?!?......in traffic??!?!!!?..SHEESH.....AROONY |

Orange has the above mentioned Felt, and a Trek 1400. Rest are cheapies. So basically nothing in my range besides the Felt. I cant tell you how close I am to saying "FOOKIT!!!" and just dropping 4 on that Roubaix.
I know it's "prcie creep" again, but an extra $700 for the Specialized....hmmmm, i'd be tempted. |

All the crazies on here. I could hardly think of a dodgier place to ride pushies.

on his specials (http://www.glenparker.com/specials.html): that De Rosa actually sounds reasonable.....for a De Rosa. Must be a SH1T colour. The Cinelli Proxima frame is a bit steep -- I know a guy who got an '03 model for 800 bucks. I heard there's a problem with carbon Meridas (cracking), which is probably why that one is cheap. The Pinarello is a fukkn rip-off. That is their 2nd bottom model, but they look great :) The Pinarello Prince...$4400!?!? for fukn aloooominum!!!! Fukn joke (hope you're not religious :) ) (don't worry, I'm just amusing myself here....I'll continue...) That Cytek Gervasio sounds reasonable for an Ultegra bike |

Let's face it, it's hard to knock the theory that our weather's a bit crap, so all we've got for half the year is SPORT SPORT SPORT. It's a bit low brow (la di da), but probably true.

:) then I'd go for the Roubaix. This also means that I've narrowed your choice down to ONE, and the bike is ready to go. :D Man oh man (aroony), imagine going from a steel MTB to a carbon Specialized.....WOW I would'nt give a stuff about some scuff marks -- wait 'til you see what a few Bathurts rocks will do to the underside of the down-tube :D |
531Aussie sed "I'm trying to talk my mate into buying a 2004, 105 equipped Gitane for $1500."
The paintwerk is ULTRA thin. The dereilleur cables have rubbed a hole in the headstock paintwork after just 200km!!??!! If you do convince you mate to buy a gitane, make sure you get him to install tape, laquer, cable shroud, or something to stop the cables rubbing on the paint. The problem is made worse if you get a little bit of grit on the cable. Acts like coarse sandpaper. Anyway, time for me to get down to Hobby Co for some enamel.... |

BTW, it looks like I'm gunna have lot's of time to ride as I quit my contract just before I went on Holidays. Don't know what I'm gunna do, but I'm fed up with IT and Project Management. Maybe I can open a bike shop?? Looking for some suggestions fellas... G'day wattsy, the 05 range has just landed. I haven't seen any on the road yet though. The only 04's i ever seen 'live' are the black & white & the credit agricole team in red that those pro's had at the sun tour this year. Job wise.....you having a mid life crisis wattsy?.....me too.....I'm over working for a living, (well being a finance puke, anyway), unfortunately the mortgage beast needs to be fed....& having done this for so long, there probably not much else I could do & earn the same $$$.......would love something in the bike industry....BV had a job last week going for a Commercial manager......I'm actually looking at the books of a bike shop at the moment (you'd be staggered who is looking for a cash injection) with a view to buying in. My accountant reckons I'm crazy, theres no money in them.....but I'm looking for something to 'DO' as well as an investment...maybe, we'll see. So what do you wanna do? hitchy |

Hey, I've got a good friend in the US who I've been yarning to about my bike buying woes. Exchange rate is good at the minute. What's the downside of buying OS? Just no warranty, and the bike getting damaged/missing in transit? Are there big customs issues or anything? Anybody know?

a mate of mine looked at this for an 04 madone. even given the excahnge rate, they were around $5k US & about $10K AUD. You have to pay GST & import duty, you'll need to insure it.....still works out a heap cheaper importing it yourself. the problem he faced, (& why he didn't go thru with it!), was that the bike companies like to protect their local distributors & trek refused to warranty the bike in OZ. if he wanted warranty, he needed to ship it back to the states. Cos the madone was seen as a bit 'ify',9turned out it wasn't), he didn't want to sacrifice his warranty. You'll need someone in the states you can trust, but other than that you should be fine provided you sort out the warranty. Another mate of mine had a really crap old gruppo & wheels put on a new frame, threw a bit of crap on it & just had it sent back claiming it was his race bike that he took over with him.....didn't have to pay duty or GST.....but I think he mighta got lucky Hitchy |

Freight will also be pricey if you shove it on a plane because everything is measured by weight AND volume. Make sure you have the right insurance (and the right amount). Items do go missing, especially if the contents are known and desirable. eg. "TREK 5500" in big black letters across the carton would raise an eyebrow or two at various freight handling points along the chain. :) |
