How do you keep an aussie bike freak in suspense?

Tell him you're going to buy a bike.....then never buy one :P

Orright, enough giving saccy the *****s :) I'd get the Roubaix - mostly because Orbea's are ugly and nobody can pronounce the name properly.

Nev, I can't believe you're down on your Cervelo. That's proabbly the last of the steel production bikes worth having. Fuk carbon, carbon is **** :) I've already decided on my next roadie - a bike with absolutely NO carbon on it. I'm pretty close now really - only my forks are carbon - but the next frame and forks will be a Ti frame with STEEL forks. :D :)

What do yas think of these brakes? Swanky hey!?

Bloody stuffin nancy!!! They look like sweet brakes!!

I don't have a bike. Haven't even decided on which one. But man I want a set of them. What they worth? (imagining I could afford them). ;)

(Them's about the best reasons I've heard on picking a bike as well, thanks. :D (For what it's worth I think they look okay, and they pronounce it Or-bear. :p ))

Nah, I'm not down on the Cervelo at all, it's just that I probably would've considered carbon if I knew I could afford it. I thought getting a carbon frame meant buying a C50, a LOOK, or a TIME ($$$$$$$$$$).

Six months ago I thought the only carbon frame under $4000 was a Giant, and I didn't wanna be
the 9,000th guy on Beach Road with one :)

wattsy_rules 11-09-04 04:15 AM

Damn, those brakes look awesome. Details man...Give us details!!

Orright lads, I've been thinking...Maybe it's time we sorted out a ride to 'the beach house' is anyone interested in a lazy ride from anywhere along Beach road to Sorrento one weekend. We can stay overnight and then return the next day. If we sucked up hard enough, I could even arrange for clothes etc to be transported down and back with the wife.

Now, no promises, but if we have a few numbers prepared to commit, I'll start lobbying.

wattsy_rules 11-09-04 04:23 AM

Just got the low down on the Gravity Brakes:

2005 Zero Gravity OG-05 Brake Calipers USD$375.00
weight: 186.0g

They had a lot of blah blah about them, but man do they rock.

I gotta work weekends, but thanks, that's an awesome offer. :)

hey saccy,

you paying cash?...as in folding cash?....here's what you do.....negotiate the FINAL price that he's willing to go to & allow you to pay with the credit card...then ask him for the CASH price, reminding him that if you pay with the plastic, he's guuna have to pay a merchant fee of about 1.5% (minimum) to the bank. You pay cash, he doesn't pay the merchant fee.....1.5% of $4k is $60.....get him to give you $100 off the deal, after you've already screwed him to the floor on price (well its a nice round figure) & you'll close it for cash today.....simple

badsac 11-09-04 06:10 AM

lol Hitchy. You're a hard bastid. I'll try that with the Bathurst mob just so the tight bastards tell me to get fooked, so I can tell them to get fooked and get the Orbea with a clear conscience. ;)

Couldn't quote a better fella could ya? :p

Now are you sure about the Specialized......you really want to pay $4k for it....if you are then GET IT!!!

I'm looking at the 2004 Specialized Catalogue....the Roubaix Comp should have Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheelset.....whats going on with the R540 wheelset!!

Make sure they are not talking about those cheap look pedals too....i think under $100....they are heavy and crap per my local bike shop......i think the ok ones start at around $150.....

Yeah, R540's were a running change toward the end of the year. Shimano must have been giving them away for free because they were so ****.

A bugger. I don't know if they're talking about the cheapies or not. How do I tell?

Check this site out.......I think this is the standard range....

The ones for $115 are the crap ones....

Ah thank you sir. They were showing me the $188 one the other day so I assumed it was it. But why wouldn't you get that cheapie? It's the lightest one of the lot.

Seems we have a fan as well. ;)

[Edit] YAY! I got post 2000 in the Aussie thread. I feel bad about taking that honour with all the hard work you guys have put in. ;)

At least you have narrowed your search down to two. A month ago I was sure I was going to purchase the 05 Giant TCR 1 (alloy), then I thought I should throw a little more money at the purchase and get the 05 Giant TCR Euro. Now after listening to all the pricks in here hang sh-t on Giants  I'm not sure I want a Giant at all. :)

Now I dont know where to look.

Whats the price on the Olmo 'Dynamic Plus' frameset?

It may be the lightest but the others seem to have better quality parts....I dont know a lot about pedals.....maybe hitchy or 531 know what makes a good pedal......its only 10 grams difference though.....

I think our little party crasher has already had a bottle or Southern before she got to the party!!

Ah I wouldn't put to much stock in people bagging Giants. Even hitchy says they aren't to bad for what they are. I would have just about sprung for the Euro if it wasn't for the flames. If you don't mind them then I still think it would be cool. But as you know, I'm a noob as well, so what do I know? ;)

What other brands of bikes do you have access to again? Still think the Lemond Chambery would have been pretty good, and it's available in December supposedly.

Yeah I was holding that $188 one and it didn't seem to heavy even though it's the heaviest one there. I told them I wanted to get something a little better so hopefully that's the one they'll sell me.

Yeah seems to be a few dribblers out and about tonight.

The only thing that annoys me about Giants is that there are so many on the road.......I've never taken one for a ride.......so dont know how they feel.....

This website has the olmo frames........

clike on the Olmo racing frames down the right hand side....

I'm not that keen on the look of the new TCR composite frames either, but then I'm only going by the photo in the catalogue. That LeMond is a nice looking bike, thats around $3000 yeah?

Yep. I could get it for $3k on the nose with shoes and pedals. And I didn't even have to try for that, so I'm sure you could do better.

BTW, it's made by trek as you know, and is outwardly a competitor for the Trek 2000. But it's specced better with a few better Botranger parts and the carbon chain stay while it's $200 cheaper. So much better value.

Scoz 11-09-04 07:36 AM

I'll probably end up with a Giant in the end no doubt. Despite all the TCR bashing that goes on here!

What complete bike can you get from Bianchi for under $4000?

Thylacine 11-09-04 02:56 PM

Zero Gravity is doing a version with stainless hardware instead of Ti which is a LOT cheaper and a bit heavier. The only real difference is the centre pivot bolt and quick release which are SS instead of Ti. They've got a retail price tag of US265 ( A353 ).

If they like me and give me an account, I reckon I could do them for somewhere between 350-400. Sure, that's no chump change, but it's 150g off your bike which is a fair whack.

ed073 11-09-04 03:20 PM

Coopers. Nuff said.

saccy,

if you're talking 'Look' pedals, they are identified by a model number...if you know that, we can probably help ya....for $188 you're probably talking about 357's or 396's...which are both good pedals. I'm a big fan of my new Keo's.....but they would wanna be good....the time it took me to get them

Well that site said they were called Look A3.1 pedals (the ones I was looking at).

I just talked to the dude though. He's going to do the bike for me for $4000, a pair of
Specialized Comp Shoes for $100, and he's throw in a set of Shimano 535 pedals for free. $100 for pedals if I go with something else. Not sure if I want those pedals as I want my mate to be able to ride my bike as well so he can be jealous ( :p ) but if they are good pedals for free then I guess I can't argue with that.

Don't know the shoes or the pedals, but I assume they are similar to the R540's ?
http://www.cecilwalker.com.au/category247_1.htm So your mate rides 'Look' or Shimano pedals?...I didn't follow that bit. How much did he want for the 3.1's?

Hitchy

badsac 11-09-04 05:34 PM

Yeah, not one of my better written posts. Mate will be getting a bike with pedals that take the new universal style (look). The pedals he's trying to give me look like they arethese ones which look like last years poverty model and have the old style shimano cleat. I guess I should pay the extra $100 and get something better?

The A3.1's were about $170 to buy, but I'm hoping he'll give them to me for $100 if I go that way.
