Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Accesories

Just purchased my first road bike. I grabbed a lock, water bottle rack, and a helmet already but wanted to know some other accessories that come recommended? I was thinking something to either mount or just carry my phone/wallet and such but wasn't sure if there is anything else that I'm missing. Thanks a lot for suggestions

if you don't have it, you will need a floor pump, spare tubes, and something to inflate with while on the go. Your options are either going with a C02 inflator, frame pump, or small hand pump. There are lots of options out there. If your LBS doesn't carry much like mine, see if you have a performance bicycle store in your area. If none of the above eBay is your friend. Nashbar is running a sale right now, see what you can find there. I could go on-and-on but I don't want to overwhelm you with all the options, just a few needs.

Quality shorts or bibs. If you plan on rides of any distance at all that can't be stressed enough.

Backpack to throw your crap in, any will work. Sandals for leisurely rides on the neighborhood bike path in the summer.

And the knowledge of how to replace a tube, then patch the flat one later.

Backpacks are not fun to wear. A small bag under the saddle is better, and you don't have to remember to bring it each time.

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to have to do a little googling on tube/tire replacement but this seems like a good start for some weekend riding. Thanks
