Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kinda like when someone says, "I ain't racist but...."

And then they of course follow it up with the most unbelievably racist thing you've heard in a lonnng time. I used to work for a guy like that.

Bikes: Have two wheels

A runner said "hi" to me on my ride yesterday. I said "hi" back.

I missed a guy's wave today. It was a very subtle finger-rise off the bar, but I was passed him before I realized he gave me a wave. I feel terrible!

I used to wave a lot but not as much now that I have a bell.
It's a great all-purpose communication device.
Depending on the circumstances, it can mean
.. Hi Neighbor/Friend/Familiar/Police/City crew worker/farm animal/
.. Passing on your left
.. Hey riding bikes is fun [the 8 year old on his first bike ride/experienced cyclist riding in miserable weather]
.. Get out of my way! Pay attention!
.. Don't pull that **** again

You were probably out riding your bike, waving to strangers

We'll call it field research.

I dont wave. I dismount, force the other cyclist to stop and give them a kiss. With tongue, if they are female and cute.

You mean, when you're not packing heat?

Dude. Aren't you the one who started the evanescent "do you pack heat on your rides" thread that just got locked, or are there two buffalowings with a cute little blue unicorn avatar?

Bikes: Bill Holland (Road-Ti), Fuji Roubaix Pro (back-up), Bike Friday (folder), Co-Motion (tandem) & Trek 750 (hybrid)

Way too many cyclists around here to even consider waving at all of them.
My simple solution is to ignore them all.
So if you wave at me and I ignore you, please don't take offense.

That was hard to read.

"HEY LOOK AT ME! LOOK! VALIDATE ME! COME ON!"

FFS, just ride your bike.
